Okay, I'm just putting this into words here so I'll know that I've said my peace and I can then take my toys and go home.
"Going Home" in the Loving Wives section is the latest thing that I've submitted. No, it's not a very nice story. In a nutshell, a guy is invited to dinner with an old girlfriend and her husband. The husband enjoys flaunting the fact that he wound up with the girl, but doesn't seem to appreciate her properly. As soon as he passes out from drinking all the wine, the girl jumps the narrator. Husband wanders in, is humiliated and basically submits. In my opinion, that doesn't make any of the characters a saint.
In the day and a half that the story has been up, it's been viewed something like 15000 times, voted on over 170 times, and publicly commented 18 times (and a few private ones to my email). It's also been panned with a 3.5 rating (my others have all done better).
I just have a few thoughts...
** No, I personally am not the guy that narrates the story, so I haven't ~lived~ it. This is the first time I've posted a story in first person here. I thought I'd do it a little differently this time around, but I wasn't expecting personal attacks. Guess I should have known better.
** The comments have been completely all over the place... (ranging from great in every way, to distasteful but well written, to how did I make it out of elementary school). It's funny to me (I think) that subject matter is apparently being used as a criteria for judging technical ability (or lack thereof).
** Erotica vs. Porn. I get the point here, but if people wanted to read Chaucer, they wouldn't be looking for the site that has the silhouette of an enticing female on the homepage. I mean absolutely no disrespect to the other authors out there (most of whom are far better at this than I am), but if you put lipstick on a pig, it is still a pig. We are all trying to tell a compelling/sexy story. Most that I've read have the emphasis on the sexy part (and most of those drop the "y" in that word).
** Cuckolding. Nope, I'm not personally interested in giving it a whirl, but with over 500 stories on this site that have it as a keyword, somebody is writing about it... and even more people are reading about it. In fact, the site has an entire section (i.e. Loving Wives) dedicated to it. It seemed like an interesting theme for me to try to describe an encounter. And yet, with all of that attention to the concept, I get a rash of people who would rather have me ending the story with the narrator catching the clap and then being shot as he jumps through the window. I'm pretty sure that might be what happens in the real world (and yes, at my house too), but does that make it interesting on any level? Literotica just had a wonderful Halloween contest. Were those authors criticized because their vampires didn't behave like the real ones do? Hmm...
Anyway.. I'm not posting this rant here for publicity's sake (lord knows you'll all go and read it and I'll wind up with a 1.5 instead of the 3.5 I've got now). If it is the type of story you would have read anyway, please do. If you're the type who votes, please do. If you're the type who likes to leave anonymous comments suggesting I get therapy, then please do that too. I'm actually very hesitant to post this little blurb, but I just got my knickers all in a twist...
I feel better now.
Thanks!
