Right, here are my Top 6 Lit Irritations for this lunar month:

1. This is Laurel's board. She sets the rules. If you don't like it, go play in another sandbox.

2. Spelling. It counts. If you care enough to post it, you should care enough to read over it before you post. If your opinion is worth something, then take the time with a spell checker to present it in the best possible light.

3. At least spell check your sig line, for christ's sake.

4. Sig images. Nobody wants to look at a great big honking image smack in the middle of every other post. And no, the size of your sig image does NOT indicate the size of your penis or your breasts. Dream on.

5. Trolls are a fact of life. If they can reach out and touch someone here deeply enough to cause real damage, then the victim probably, sadly should not be here. There are kinder, gentler places in the world.

6. Violence. Nobody here is really going to kick anyone else's ass at anything other than the Quotations game. Give it a rest. It doesn't make you look like Manly Man or Uber Bitch. It just makes you look sad and pathetic.

Thank you. I am now going to grab a hot water bottle, kick the dog on my way back to bed, and curl up with a bar of chocolate.

Damn, now I feel childish because I have done all what you said above. Except for being a troll.

My boobs are bigger than my sig image and I can kick yer ass ;) HOO-AH!!!!! No wait, that's Army. I'm a lean mean desk jockeying machine! I'm a chair-borne ranger, I live the life of danger, just hanging out with cholesterol and Sparky!

I'm tired, I'm going to go get things stuck into my skull, and my sense of humor really needs an entire engine overhaul. Anyone know what the firing order is on that? I think the wires got crossed.

Then shape up and fly right :) It's never to late to save yourself, as Todd will tell you. Alternatively, you can tell me to take my opinion and stick it.

BTW, there's only on "f" in "afraid."

Only on f my dear? Of course there's no 'f' in way.

LOL, sorry Bri, couldn't help myself. I agree with eveything you have posted, as usual. I even have a dictionary beside me for obtuse words, but forget to check the mundane ones often myself.

I have fixed up the afraid, and made that sig picture smaller. Looks kinda funny, but it was to big any way.

Now I could tell you to stick your opinnon, but I won't. Manly because I agree with you. And I take your opinnion on board, and true to better my postings.

When someone pays me for my posting then I will consider worrying about my spelling and my grammar, until then people will just have to mutter thier way through my posts when they feel so inclined to read what i have to say.

Last time I checked this wasn't http://www.Enlish.101 it was http://www.literotica.com maybe I am mistaken.

ROFL!

Juspar, I've been hoisted by my own petard! (And yes, I had to check that spelling in my dictionary.)

Macbeth, thanks :) Besides, I *knew* you could spell!

MacBeth...

I have a smaller version of your original image, if you want to email me for it. It's clearer than the one you're not happy with.

If you want to email me at darlingbri@literotica.org I'll send it to you as soon as Lit Mail is working again.

DarlingBri I agree with most of your points. Those I don't agree with are those about spelling, since some of the people that post here, myself including, doesn't have english as their first language.

I think we should live with the mistakes people make with the spelling, as long as what they write brings out their point.

Well I just spent 5 mins fixing my above post. It was acting strange, but I fixed it :)

I well send a email as well as soon as Lit mails working :D *grins*

Todd, no need to be so defensive. If you choose to ignore your spelling and grammar mistakes, then so be it. But DarlingBri has a good point.

Though I don't believe I have posted to your threads before, I enjoy reading what you write and have learned that you are thoughtful and quite impassioned about some topics. However, proper spelling and grammar does lend an air of credibility to one's writing. It shows that you are not only capable of conversing on a topic, but you care enough about your thoughts to facilitate others' ability to read them.

I was taught that as long as my opinion was informed, I had a right to express it. I wasn't taught that I had to be elloquent or a good speller to boot. But that's the last I'll say on that. Because in essence I agree with Bri, make an attempt, however you don't have to have perfect grammer and spelling to make a point.

To Non-Native English Speakers

ShyGuy68, I should add to my above post that non-native English speakers ought to be given greater leniency in their spelling and grammar mistakes. You won't find me attempting to post in another language, and I commend anyone that can do so.

I'm with you on most but spelling......

Not for me - I do try - but not so hard as to limit the flow of thought.

Many great artists and thinkers of all types - have gotten bogged down in the rules - rules to follow, so as to impress other's - with near identical technique - because they too - must follow the rules.

Great artists - great thinkers - they don't give a shit about rules - they break rules.

Intricate, tedious adhereation to spelling and grammar - waste time and thought.

One only needs to be understood.

I wasn't trying tp be defensive. If you have read my past any bout by schooling you would see that for the most part english, though it be my native language, class was lost on me cause my educator Mrs. Ethal Watson who was older than God when I stepped into her class had also taught my Grandparents, my pareants and then myself. And something my grandfather did in her class ticked her off toward my family name. hence I was marked exceedongly hard. in english constant F's after a year of this I gave up trying. I knew it wasn't my fault it was her because my mother was a friend with a community college professor who wrote me a paper for an english assignment and she marked it with an F just like everything. Spelling tests, I should try and see if mom still has my old stuff and scan it to show. C-A-T was the wrong spelling for cat a lot of stuff like that happened. After a while you stop caring how you erform and simply read comic books to pass the 55 minute classes by.

Oh well enough ranting, sorry about that carry on.

ShyGuy & Todd...

Perhaps I overstated my point in order to get it across.

We all make spelling errors and typos. There are, however, people who post with such gross disregard for language that their posts do nothing but illustrate their laziness. Any point they may have had to make is lost in the fact that they simply didn't care enough to make it attentively.

I do not in any way mean to state that only those who are well educated, posess perfect spelling, or are native English speakers should post. I apologise if that's how it came across.

Sparky, I understand your point. Personally, spelling is important to me and the way I present my written words. When I make a longish post, I copy and paste it into a new email, spell check it there, and paste it back into the Lit box. No thought required :)

Responding to this thread again will probably turn me into the Grammar Maven, but I just wanted to add that perhaps the differences in opinion over grammar and spelling stems from the respective emphasis they were given in our educations. I was taught that elloquence and proper spelling and grammar were essential to effectively conveying my thoughts. To this day, I still know how to diagram a sentence and break down arguments to their logical components and fallacies. And, Sparky, it's not a waste of time and thought for me. It is so ingrained, I wouldn't know how to write any other way.

OK, I feel similarly, but to be honest, that viewpoint is elitist. All I'm asking is that people recognise that their own thoughts are worthy of their very best efforts, and put in the extra bit of time to make that best effort.

I'm not asking for perfection, I'm asking for the best job people can reasonably do. It's respectful to yourself, and respectful to the people who are interested enough in what you have to say to slog through your posts.

Even though I suck at spelling and proper use of grammer. I agree with Bri. Spelling things right, and using the right grammer helps to get you point across. And yet, I am still not convinced me other wise.

Seems odd that as we're all sat here on our computers, reading through threads that have lately talked about programmes for webcams, msn,AOL, icq, music downloads etc. The programme that people seem most loth to use, is the one that probably came free with their computer. A spellchecker.

It's simply a de-coding device for translating our own thoughts, into something the rest of the English speaking world can more easily understand.

I try to watch my spelling and grammar but in the hurry of a post or thought sometimes i tjust fly right by without realizing, when i do catch my self i do the obligatory {sp?}, my apologies to all who have to suffer through my posts.

Would you tell me where I might find the spell checker on my Computer? My Outlook express does not have one, Notepad does not have one, Word Pad does not have one. I can not find one on my computer. Where is it hidden in windows 95?

Ack! I don't want to be viewed as an elitist! If anything, I am simply a complete nerd on this matter. And I promise that I will never correct anyone else's grammar and spelling. My perfectionism only applies to my own posts.
