In terms of cockney rhyming slang etc, this all sounds like it's come straight out of that Elijah wood film 'Green Street'.
Pounds are definitely still the British currency. Britain and Denmark are the only European countries in the EU I know of that don't use the euro. Oh and Switzerland because they are neutral.
