I love this so much I wish I could find a group locally to learn how to play. It’s so intimidating though.

Is there a branch of Meetup in your area? They're a collection of groups of likeminded people with similar interests. A friend outside of Boston went to many gaming nights (got to try new and new-to- him games), many movies (and coffee after to discuss, but it's not required), and he learned square dancing and attended weekly get-togethers. To be clear, it's not the same group all the time but there may be some overlap. There are crafts and hobbies, outdoor activities and groups. Beyond movie tickets, your own food, etc., I don't *think* there are fees, but I never tried it. (They're a dott com.)
