Not sure what the root cause (get it?) is.

It’s been really rainy summer, so I doubt it’s drought. But maybe it’s too wet, or disease or it was just it’s time to fall.

Same here. But they say it was so dry that all those many [many] inches...of rain didn't sink in, and so didn't help.
