We're fucking around with filters, she's on photoshop moving individual lines around...

I have no clue how you do them!

I didn't save the original project, but, here's a quick rundown, to prove it's not magic!

1) cut out the mask
2) flip it and lower opacity to align it with his face
3) use the Smudge-brush to contour it.
--
4) play with filters until you stumble on something that makes it look good!

The tricky bits are finding images that go well together, and trying to come up with an idea in the first place.
