As mentioned we were in Canberra recently. Unfortunately, there was a political convention on at the hotel as well. This lowered the tone of our stay because of the necessity to move around this situation or that. I don't have much time time for pollies in general but this lot really got under my skin. I'll apologise in advance for the following rant.
Maybe I'm getting older and becoming less tolerant. Maybe as one ages one sees things more clearly and in a different light. But fair dinkum, am I the only one to detect how unqualified most of them are to hold the job? I'm trying to be careful here; I'm not inclining towards any particular side of politics, just the pollies. Sure, there are some who deserve to follow their calling but so many are not. There was a time when politicians would stand on their own. They would address a gathering or the press on their own. But now, they require an entourage of goons standing behind them, nodding like the little dogs on the back shelf of a motor vehicle and seemingly hanging on every word uttered from their masters mouth........which he/she read on the cue boards at their side, just out of view, prompting us to think they are magnificent orators and actually know and understand what they're talking about.
When I went to school I was taught grammar and how to string a sentence. I was taught manners and to treat the janitor the same as the CEO. Ironically, their lack of ability is an ailment which seems to affect many other countries elected officials as well.
Once upon a time there were a few authoritative figures, here, and around the globe, one could admire as a leader; someone who was in charge, knew it, and deserved to be. Not any more I fear.........big business is in charge and probably always has been.

I think that pollies competency is only oart of the issue. We have the most complicated systems possible, federal, state, etc. Tenterfield had a guy die in a hospital that was 7 days without a dr on call. Look deeper, tenterfield folk are in nsw, they shop in Queensland, their state member is in lismore, their federal member is in Armidale or tamworth, and their hospital is run from Newcastle, 520km, or 6hrs drive away. Talk a recipe for fuck ups.
