vampires

See, this the problem I have w/ erotic vampire stories.

When a Vampire bites someone, it's not having sex, it's EATING. You don't get all orgasmic when you're having lunch do you?

I might if it's a reallly good lunch:devil:

Depends on what I'm eating

It would be nice to see a twist

I forget the name of the movie but the main vamp turned out to be Judas Iscariot and being a vampire was his punishment

Buffy (espescially the origional movie) and Love at First Bite made humour out of vampire caricatures.

The latest crop of Hollywood vamp flicks, like Blade, has them as warriors.

The weirdest was a book. Theodore Sturgeon's, Some of Your Blood. I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone but it was more of an aquired taste than a vamp.

The one thing I haven't seen is a vamp as a homeless downtown street bum. Thinking of peep shows, 20 dollar hookers and shooting up. Maybe he just believes he's a vamp out of mental illness. A touch of reality makes it really creepy. Remember Nicolas Cage in what-was-the-name-of-that-movie where he wore plastic fangs and thought he had been sired.

Other, more classic twists, could involve social workers or other downtown nightcrawlers that could be sires. That would be more like Lost Boys.

The concept has been done to undeath but there's always some way that it hasn't been done.

That was Wes Craven's Dracula 2000...the first in a trilogy from him.
I don't know what the Nic Cage one was though.

Which vamp movie do you guys think was better?

Interview with a Vampire or Queen of the Damned.
Or do you have your own personal fave?

The whole thing w/ vampires and eroticsm, is that its *metaphoric* yes, eating can be orgasmic, so can biting and sucking. For me, I suppose that a vampire story ceases to be erotic when it drops the metephoric sexuality and sensuality and goes straight to literal sex. When you have vampires having literal sex, you just miss the point! Vampires are all about repressed sexualilty, forbidden sex apeal, *sexual hunger* which is never relieved for more than but a short time, lust for blood (reprsenting violence but also *life* real life, not the shadow of life given to the undead) Lust, perversion, passion, need, power, control, seduction, surrender, insatiability, hunger, thirst. these are powerful and erotic in themselves, but also metephores for sex, the power of sex and the fear of sex.

IF you say it literally, then you don't need the metaphore. It's just redundant, and ultimatly less powerful.

sorry, but I think I need to disagree.

Yes, a vampire story can be without actual literal sex. But doesn't it add a new dimension to the story if it does have it? Sort of an ultimate corruption of the victim. It's not enough that they're giving themselves up by being seduced by someone, but by a vamp who might drain them. Makes room for more suspense or on the other hand even romance by showing that not all vamps are uncaring beings of the darkness. Some want to still have a life and not just go around drinking blood

Have you read more of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles besides Interview? I think you'd enjoy them as they are very ... erotic in the not-out n out-sex kinda way. Mostly it seems to be between men, vampire - men, or male vamp-male vamp.
One that particularly sticks out in my mind as being very hot is "The Vampire Armand".

A lot of her writing has this very noticable master/slave relationships if you know that side of it, if you don't it doesn't smack you in the face with it either... .and it's not the whole tied up in chains stuff either its much more the mental aspect which, personally speaking, I find much more.... yummy lol

Give them a gander if you are interested!

TWO TYPES OF "VAMPIRES"

Physical vampires, those that feast on the flesh (blood) should be portrayed as Hunters, pure and simple. The stalking of the prey, by scent (most often referred to in vampiric stories, they smell the fear and sweet sweet blood coursing through their soon to be victim), and by taste (tied, of course, tightly to the sense of smell), make the experience firmly entrenched in the physical. It's all about the feeding, and the FEAR of the victim heightens the oxygen and adrenaline content of the blood, giving it a nice tasty boost.

Psychic vampires, those that feed on the life energy essence itself (soul?), are usually portrayed as the subtle and seductive ones. They are the Succubi and Incubi of legend. With them, it is the EXCITEMENT and AROUSEMENT of the prey, not the FEAR that spurs them on. After all, the energy of the "little death" is the sweetest one you can find.

It is these, the vampires of the psychic realm, that are your sexual fuck and suck types. Ask the priests of the middle ages who wrote about them, and blamed "wet dreams" on them...

Firstly, to answer the question, posted a bit ago, I preferred Interview with a Vampire, but I'm not sure why.

Secondly, as SnackPacKid said, Anne Rice's novels are extremely erotic, without any sex at all (and she even explains why vamps can't "do it." ) The point of the relationships in the novels is on a much higher level: it's a philosophical sexuality. After all, Rice portrays her characters as less than human (in fact, not human at all).

Thirdly, the idea of sustaining someone with your blood, and making it an erotic experience borders on instinctual. It's effectively the next best thing to reproduction (which, by the way, most people agree vamps would not be able to do). Blood is so essential to our survival that the ability to make someone more alive by giving them your blood is like the ultimate gift. And what would a person give their spouse/lover/etc. if they gave them something really nice? Probably sex. [That's just a generalization, don't hurt me. ]

Lastly, eternal existence, while frightening, is tempting. How many stories are there of the search for the Fountain of Youth? Or Ambrosia? Or, for that matter, a vamp that could "turn" you?

Also, as to the logistics of vampire existence... What the hell do you all expect? I'm a scientific person; I would love a logical explanation for vampires ("Blade" tries pretty hard), but there just isn't one.

Some questions to ask yourself when deciding vampire logistics in your stories:

1. What's wrong with their system that they need more blood, and can drink it, but can't eat or drink anything else?

2. What is their social system? I've seen lots of stuff with a monarchical system in place.

3. Why are there so few (or so many) vamps?

4. How and how well do they exist in the modern, mortal world of everyday?

5. What kind of sex are they capable of? (Tangent question: is it possible for them to have babies? "Blade" thought so.)

A long post, but what the hey.

I think a monarchial system would work best to help control exposure and to help share any news of risks to their continued secret existence. Maybe they'd have something in place to get rid of problem vamps

3. Why are there so few (or so many) vamps?

They don't really want their existence known do they? So maybe there are more than we could imagine. If you knew there were hunters out there would you openly admit to being a vamp?

4. How and how well do they exist in the modern, mortal world of everyday?

I think they'd be able to exist pretty well. There are enough jobs that are open during the night and I imagine that they'd have a support system in place for doctors, lawyers and such.
Another thing though. If they're imortal wouldn't they have saved up a shitload of money over time?

5. What kind of sex are they capable of? (Tangent question: is it possible for them to have babies? "Blade" thought so.)

I think they'd be capable on any sex imaginable. They still have their bodies right?
As for babies, maybe it would depend on what kind of vamp they were. I think that in today's world of genetics and biology(or a fictional world) there could possibly be two kinds of vamps...mythical and scientific. That way you'd be able to bring in all the different ideas for their "cultures" from movies and books.

There'd be the mythical vamps like in the movie's Queen of the Damned and Underworld. Then there's the scientific Blade vamps.

Dennis- that was all amazingly right-on in my mind. Since I haven't written anthing having to do with vamps for a long time, I hadn't really given it any thought. But after reading what you wrote, I nodded and said, "Mm-hm." And I never do that with other posts.

I can see you've put a lot of thought into this whole thing.

Dunno if anyone here has ever looked into Vampire:The Masquerade by White Wolf (the old version not the new one that just got published)

But it's some pretty good reading material for Vampire stuff. The "kiss" as some call is even more erotic than actual orgasm in somecases, and in other it further heightens the sensation.

You wouldn't have to buy the book, I wouldnt think, just poke about online for some search engines. There's surely enough of us V:tM geeks out there that have pirated *gasp* the material online, and I think that white wolf (www.white-wolf.com) even has a few downloads and snippets from their books.

Interview with a Vampire, by FAR. Queen of the Damned was horrible. The book, which I still haven't read, got rave reviews... but from everything else... I've read and heard from friends they BUTCHERED the movie.

I like the White WOlf's game V:tM system

1. What's wrong with their system that they need more blood, and can drink it, but can't eat or drink anything else?

I would suspect it's the whole thing about them being dead. The blood they use is to keep them going. Like vital organs sustained, it makes them warmer, their color is better, and in some cases it allows them to mimic a heartbeat. The blood allows them to "live", to regenerate. They have no real need for actual food or drink. Blood is their food. Though, there is a merit in the gaming system that does allow them to eat, to give the appearance of a normal person. (It's the whole masquerade thing)

2. Social System: In white wolf there are several ways to go about it. You have the "Prince"(male or female it's called Prince) of a region/city/etc, and then you have like clan leaders (White wolf has 12+ clans/bloodlines of vampires) which sorta act like a council for the Prince. There are certain rules when entering a region, ruled under a prince. His word is law, period. You don't just do around making vampires without permission etc, etc. The main law they live by is the Masquerade, which is pretty much, don't let the humans know they exsist. This is like a sacred law punishable by death if broken.

4. How well they exsist: They get by just fine, that's where ghouls ( mortals given vampiric blood to drink) come into play. The vampire blood grants the humans heightened abilities, and if drank 3 times from the same vampire, you have what you call a blood bond. It's like a minion in a sense. The ghouls do the work for their masters during the day.

5. Vampires are not capable of sex. IT would burn too much of their blood stored to keep the proper organs fuctioning. Babies are not possible as they are dead. (now this gets sketchy in the WW system past 15th generation vampires ... as the "blood" in these creatures is so thin that it doesn't affect them completely. They can have babies and can wander in the daylight etc etc)

My favorite sexy-vampire movie is INNOCENT BLOOD. Especially the handcuff scene.

for some reason I've been having the urge to watch and read stories about vampires lately and I want to try and write one too.

Can I please get some hints from people who have posted and read good stories in this vein? (nice pun huh?)

I was thinking a relatively short one with the start of:

Running. Why do they always run so? Even those that don't believe in my kind should be able to remember enough of the stories that they wont get away. It's not like there's anywhere for them to go, except into my arms. Maybe if they knew what pleasure I could give them they wouldn't, and maybe I'll accidentally walk into a stake too!
I've heard of others finding matches in their prey. Maybe I'll find mine soon too. God knows I've waited long enough. I guess I'll just have to enjoy my time as much as possible until then. Being sure to spread the fun too of course.

Wow! That just flowed out. Maybe I should pause writing my other story and give this one a shot. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Check out my halloween entry if you like vampire stories. Chapter 2 should be approved soon.

hey paper flowers
since it sounds like you're into the masquerade role playing game, can you please give a list of a vamp's weaknesses?

everyone knows about stakes and crosses but what's the twist with silver and garlic?
I remember a video boardgame the had a lot of things about vamps in it, i'll have to see if i can find it in my closet.

I recently read a book that was done as a sequel to bram stoker's dracula. it was from the point of view of drac's sister. pretty good for a small paperback though. made a good try at the point that people are the same in life as in death.

I have a 'thing' about vampires, and would encourage anyone to write said themed stories, as then i can read them!

Ive been writing, for quite a few years, though not stories, more journals, letters and some short stories.
Having just finished my first vampire novel in ages. I found it very hot, very erotic and i was saving the scene where the vampire turns me (yes, i read everything as if in the first person, its more fun for me that way), and was sooooo dissappointed in how it was done. That im inspired to have a go myself, ill re-write the scene how i would of liked it to go.

Honestly, if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing yourself.

Ive downloaded a few to read tonight whilst im bored at work (10 hrs with nothing to do but sit mainly and be on call = lots of writing and reading time

:D

I love Vampire thrills ^_^ ever since I was a little girl I loved vamps. I have only found a few good movies/books about them though. A lot of books/movies seem to make vampires the bad guys, ugly, mindless demons. When I belive that Vampires are buetiful, inteligent and most of all cunning. They have to have some sort of powers, not just every vamp gets these gifts and thats that. More like, I live in Alaska so I would have gifts like being out in the day light, shape shifting and perswashon with animals and humand alike. Someone from Texas would have diffrent powers, perhaps they have to stay inside when the sun is out, fly, and such things.

So on and so forth.

hey anyone who knows the masquerade thing maybe you can answer this one for me too.

what are some of the powers that vamps can have?
what are some of the ways to drive vamps away?

someone else said that not everyone gets powers and usually those that do don't get them all but is there any sort of thing like one vamp asking another how to do their power?

A close friend of mine used to run a play-by-e-mail role-playing game based on the movie "The Lost Boys". It was a lot of fun, as we had a lot of very creative people playing, and it gave people a strong incentive to write frequently.

Every once in a while, the topic of sex *ahem* came up. My first post to Lit was one of my posts from the game where this happened.

Submitted for your approval...

does white wolf have the masquerade's rules on the net?

maybe it would be easier to look it up than have someone type them out :)

The main character in most my vampire type stories feeds not only by feeding on blood but also consumes emotive energy like fear and excitement. this gives good reason to stimulate the victim to the highest level of excitement or terror.

I have posted a few of these tales on lit but have many more that I've written chronicling the rise of the said creature. Not that I class her as a vampire in the classic sense of the word.

Cheers
