vampires

The main character in most my vampire type stories feeds not only by feeding on blood but also consumes emotive energy like fear and excitement. this gives good reason to stimulate the victim to the highest level of excitement or terror.

I have posted a few of these tales on lit but have many more that I've written chronicling the rise of the said creature. Not that I class her as a vampire in the classic sense of the word.

Cheers

I love the idea of a female vamp that feeds on sperm

Oh. I didn't think about any of this when I wrote mine! And I realise now I probably should have. :D

I guess I had a few ideas of what I wanted in my vampire story, but not something I consciously thought about until now:
1. nobody dies
2. her blood sustains his naughty bits
3. whether he comes or not is vague - I left it for the reader to decide.
4. orgasmic bites - if he is going to bite, it may as well be good.

The feedback I got was that my vampire was a bit on the dark side, which surprised me greatly!

But as to vampire stories, I like Laurel Hamilton's earlier books in the anita blake series. Some of the more fantastical stories that explore in great detail all the different 'powers' - turning into bats and smoke etc - don't hold much appeal.

I find her werewolves distracting from the power of the Hunt, thus the Huntress.

Opps. worded that last para badly. I meant vampire stories in general, not Ms Hamilton's.

(ps I don't like the new werewolf/leopard, mikal. all that pack political bullshit is detracting from what is essentially a vampire story :d)

Although I think Laurell Hamilton's vampires are amazing (*Jean-Cluade, Asher, & Damian have become the star of many of my midnight fantasies*), I think she is consciously trying to go beyond a vampire story into a general dark paranormal creature-type story. I find some of her concepts regarding the were-animals really interesting (& erotic)...Often I think authors limit themselves to only 1 paranormal creature - if vampires exist in Hamilton's world it only kind of makes sense that other creatures would to.

Just out of curiosity, anyone have any opinions on her Merry Gentry series?...

Onto the actual topic though, I think character development is one of the most important things in a story. Everyone has their own concept on what the perfect vampire is like. As long as you stay true to your idea of a perfect vampire as you write, that is all that matters.

I find the Merry Gentry series a bit thin on plot. I think the story has great potential, but so far it hasn't been reached. LKH has the ability to create amazing and interesting worlds, that also seem grounded in reality.

I just think Mikail was an easy answer. He's too convenient, and has little layers, unlike the rest of the characters in the story. And I think this was intended.

Oh YEAH!!
You've stepped into my teratory, I'm writing one right now, and it should be in by the end of the week.

Have two new stories accepted today if any one fancies a gander at them.

Both non human well sort of its hard to work out which is the best section to place them in. theyre sort of vampiric lesbian affairs, take a look and give me some feedback.

They both concern the same main character about which most my scribblings revolve one way or another! ENJOY I hope

does white wolf have the masquerade's rules on the net?

maybe it would be easier to look it up than have someone type them out :)

I'm pretty sure they door. Just do a google or yahoo search for "Vampire:the Masquerade"

I'll poke through my books and see what I dig up for you.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has a slightly odd perspective on vampires- the mythology is much more intriguing than the vampirism, but the series is still good.

Just a suggestion if you'd like to read more somewhat-vampiric stories.

how does she deal with the erotic aspects?

...does she deal with the erotic aspects?

Yes, indeed she does: she writes Romance Novels. The series is called the Dark Hunter series, and she deals with what pretty much anyone can expect from a mainstream novelist dealing with this topic: the men are physically perfect (not including scars that add character), angsty (actually, some of them border on sociopathic tendancies- they're all seriously emotionally scarred), and they stalk and kill evil vampires called Daimons. And the heroines are mostly spunky, beautiful, and independant.

Not the usual vampire thing: the Dark Hunter guys aren't allowed to "feed," but they do with their true love. Kenyon has turned these guys into living gods, effectively: extreme beauty, powers, and a boss named Acheron who has more beauty, angst, and powers than all the characters put together.

As to erotic aspects, she's pretty good at sex scenes (but nothing kinkier than strange positions and oral sex), and the rest of the story's not too bad either.

(As part of her Dark Hunter series, she also has shapeshifters, weres, and gods from several pantheons as characters both primary and non, good and bad.)

P.S. My favorite Dark Hunter novel is "Night Play." The hero is effectively a werewolf, and the heroine is zaftig (I love that word). Like me. (I'm finally finding Romance novels with plump women as the main character.)

it always seems to me that i'm the only one who doesn't know how to write. everyone else seems to know what they're doing, especially you sirhugs :)

hardlyy at all. I just muddle along. You have al the imagination necesary. We can help you with a basic structure if you need it . Then write. Then find a good proofreader ( I am lousy at that).

Basic plot:
~ introduce main character (one para- 100 words?)
~establish setting ( same)
~introduce lust interest ( 150 to 200 words)
~intitial sexual stirrings ( 150 to 200 words)
~ seduction slowly....400 words in six or so paras)
~completion ( finish strong, but don't rush the sex- detail is good...200 to 400 words)

seems like such a cold disection of what puts a story together

the fun is in adding the steamy details to heat it up....

really? I hadn't noticed :)

well, that's prolly cause you haven't written yet;)

I'll be humble and admit it...I don't need two hands.

just read a neat vamp book(sorry, not erotic)
by Sue Ann Mossimon (??)

It said vamp were born human but a virus passed down through their family lines eventually attacked their bodies, killing them and changing them into vampires.

During death, the soul entered a dream state where they had to choose what type of creature they'd become, A predator, craven or natural.

Predator - hunted and killed for most of it's blood needs and sought out power

Craven - a literal coward who cannot live on without help or welfare

Natural - tries to carry on a normal life in society

weaknesses - fire & decap
sun only affects at first, after that only cravens(more fear based)

even after becoming a certain type of vamp when changed, can still end up living as other type

was a good book for offering explanation of vamps, but the ending was very anti-climatic

Greetings! I'm from the GLBT and couldn't resist your Vampiric thread or post! My male fangs somehow led me here. I 've always had an obsession with all things Gothic & undead, and the fact that Bram Stoker himself was a bisexual/gay man, well... Nevertheless, one of the best books I've come across, (and recommend) is titled "A Taste For Blood: 15 Great Vampire Tales." (Edited by Martin H. Greenberg 1992-93 Barnes & Nobles Books). Clive Barker, H.P. Lovecraft, Robert Block are among the famous list of story contributors. Lots of inspirational material here, but then maybe you've already seen this one before (?) Anyhow, good luck! I'd better get back! My boyfriend is a werewolf...

oops

sorry, author's name is Billie Sue Mossiman
book title "Red Moon Rising"
