Hey Arc! Long time, no see. :) Remind me please: which one is Arucard: the one with crazy grin? (Someday I'll watch that movie and then never get them confused again. ;) )

There are 2 Alucard / Arucard ...
(Yes, I am anal about the correct spelling of the name)

The one w/ the crazy grin bad ass & bored Vamp is Alucard from Hellsing anime / manga ... Here he is picture w/ another Vampire hottie Abel Nightroad from Trinity Blood ...

Now the other Arucard is from the video game "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" aka "Dracula X" in Japan (PS1) & does make an appearance in other Castlevania titles (though not as he looks like in Symphony of the Night) ... He is the son of Dracula ...

Why do anime-art people copy a painting so exactly, only changing a few details? This isn't the first time I've seen this done.
I dunno ... It looks like a trace & color ... ugly as hell ...

I'll post how the character look like in the manga in the anime thread ...

PS: Don't forget, you owe me some scary music. I am waiting impatiently :/

Hai Hai ... Sorry I'll post some tonight ...

You really know your anime vampires! You know the art well, too, I see. I just see one and think, "ooo look at the pretty colors!" ;) Well I sometimes see a couple more things. For example, I liked the humor in the knockoff and in the original of the vampire holding a crucifix. After seeing the original, though, I see what you mean about the knock-off's crudeness.

Maybe they trace them because it's easy? Or they can't think up their own themes? Come to think of it, I've seen images in other art genres on deviantart.com that I recognize as half-worked take-offs of an original artwork. Maybe it's also like celebrity idol worship: you like what a painting depicts so much that it's the only thing you want to paint? Who knows, lol.

As far as appreciating art goes, I like pictures that show me something new, that I haven't seen before. With anime, most of it is still brand new to me, although I'm starting to recognize certain themes. For example, a common depiction that I find very sexy is the romantic placement of the "dominant" partner behind the "submissive" partner (I put those words in quotes because often there's no overt S&M, it's just the expressions and postures that give this away) and with his or her arms protectively and posessively around the other. It's a natural posture in real life, too, as well as being symbolic, so it surprises me that other art doesn't depict it more frequently.

I like Abel Nightroad and his smile, although I think he's getting a bit long in the tooth! :/

Thanks for the scary music! You are a prize. :) I will download tonight after work. Don't be a stranger, Arc, if possible. We miss you. :)

We had one Litster named Alucard. This was before the Alucard you mentioned was created. BTW Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards.
