How dare they when those who have bore the brunt of war suffer! This is disgraceful. Veterans are denied the care they not only deserve, but are entitled too and these bureaucrats continue to stick their snouts in the trough! Substandard care in every hospital virtually and the sorry excuse now under two administrations is they don't have the money....No they do and they don't seem to know how to budget it.

I always thought a bonus implied you did well and things ran better so you were rewarded, but the VA seems to do worse with every conflict. In my opinion people should be going to jail.


And an appeal to Preside Obama who said he wanted to do right by veterans and make the defense department run better. Please sir...please before you take on healthcare for all please handle it for those you're responsible for right now. Don't blow off this issue, but give it the same attention you give the economy, global warming, and race. I'm not saying anyone is less important, but this can't be allowed to happen.

The federal government is designed to provide for the common defense, and that means providing for those who take on the task.

Regrettably, VA care varies greatly from hospital to hospital. I am fortunate that at Long Beach, where I go, the conditions and the service are quick and efficient. You need an X-Ray? The treating physician types the prescription into the computer and you go upstairs and get X-rayed. My prescriptions come in the mail, I don't even have to visit the pharmacy. Others, for example those in Phoenix, are far from as well cared for. Shimseki has his work cut out for him but if anyone can reform that department, he can.

Your wonderful, helpful bureaucrats at work...once a gummint worker gets to a certain level it's darn near impossible to fire them.

and then there are those wonderful politicians who really don't give a crap about anything except getting re-elected!

and the wonderful population that votes themselves cookies and candy!

You expect more from gummint workers, they probably voted themselves into the jobs they hold.

I always thought civil service employees never received bonuses. I know I never did as a state employee. If these were cash awards for innovative ideas or ways to save money or similar specific actions, it might be understandable. I'm not sayinlg it WOULD be, I just said it MIGHT be.

A few of us did lift a finger to change things. We voted to change administrations. W was famous for appointing incompetent people to run government agencies. Perhaps O can weed them out - and raise the budget of the VA while he's at it. (You can always count on the conservatives to underfund government agencies.)

I do find it laughable that one of the VA bonuses was reported to be the staggering amount of $60,000. What would that be, one week's pay out of a Wall Street bonus? The rest of the bonuses were in the $2,500 per year category. Why is it that, on the one hand, the conservatives want the private sector to run everything, but on the other hand, when the government starts acting like the private sector, the conservatives can't handle it?

I do share the outrage expressed by the other posters here, but my outrage extends to those so-called patriots who supported the previous administration that allowed the corruption referred to in the posted article. When you support a candidate who obviously has no integrity, you really can't complain about what you get in exchange for your vote.
