Yes you are right about it being only west of the Mississippi. It was just a regional beer up to the mid 80’s or so. My parents would visit relatives in Arizona & bring me back 2 6-packs in the late 70’s. They moved here to the Valley when they expanded, one of the reasons was the groundwater in the area... so much for the “ Rocky Mountain Spring Water” in their sloganPort City in Fairfax had a good coffee stout but have not seen it for a while. Devil Backbone has some good brews. There are a few good ones but mostly I find IPAs a bit too hoppy for me. There use to be a beer garden on Rt 7 in Tysons Corner but the building of a high rise kicked them out and they never relocated anywhere that I could find. They had some good beers and a really good soft pretzel.
When I was a kid I remember when Coors could not be bought east of the Mississippi. I have no idea the reasoning but I remember when Coors finally was able to come east. Coors was then the beer of choice for a while because of the novelty. I like Coors. For the hot weather of summertime I enjoy Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. It is light, crisp and goes down easy in hot weather. I don't drink lite beers. It is like drinking water with a little bit of alcohol added.
Yes Devils Backbone produces some fine beers. Been to their brewery a number of times, a positive experience. Slainte
