SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Good Book is being treated like a bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for younger children.

Nevertheless as a high school librarian I had a Bible, a Quran, the Torah and the Talmud as well as numerous books that described the teachings and philosophy of numerous other world religions. In a free society we have choices and it is important to provide the materials for intelligent, educated individuals to read, comprehend, discuss and decide on their own. It isn't up to any one parent or group to make the decision.
