The writer of King Kong, Merian Cooper, was inspired to create King Kong by his friend William Burden's real life expedition to Indonesia to hunt the Komodo Dragon.
 
The original title for "Gone with the Wind" was "Tomorrow is Another Day" Margaret Mitchell's editor asked her to change it before publication.
 
The current US flag was designed by a High Schooler called Robert Heft who designed it for a school assignment. He was given a B- for the assignment, and then made a deal with his teacher that if it was accepted as the official design his grade would be improved. So he sent off his design to Eisenhower for the competition to design the new US flag, and he won.

When the Kansas Turnpike system was built, it was designed so that for every five miles, there would be at least one straight mile, even as it wound through the Flint Hills, so that the straight mile section could be used as an emergency runway during wartime if necessary.
 
Speaking of highways, the US interstate system was the brainchild of Eisenhower, who marveled at how European road systems could be used to move troops and supplies in WWII. At that time the US had no such system, so it was designed primarily for defense.
 
“Trivia” comes from Tri Via, an intersection of three roads. News and information was frequently posted there so travelers and residents could be informed.
 
The original name of the game Twister was Pretzel. However, as that name was already trademarked they switched it to Twister.

The company that produced the game, Milton Bradley, was accused by their competitors of selling "sex in a box" due to the close contact required to play the game.
