Better than what ZA offers, at least ZAF (which is what I use), I suppose better than ZAP too - or so they claim.

They also have one for Black Ice Defender if you use that instead.

I found out that some KAZAA users were pinging me (I don't have KAZAA installed) and a bunch of other stuff.

Thanks Heritic.
This was a useful site.
Yeah, I didn't really understand the raw logs all that well. It turns out that a LOT of people have tried to probe port 139 (NETBIOS) on my computer - these are the session services used to login/share files/etc. - so they were probably up to no good, although it is hard to tell exactly what the intent was because the probe was blocked by my firewall.

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that some of the internet cops who want to catch hackers reroute such attempts to a proxy session or computer that fakes a valid session, meanwhile they are collecting info on who is doing the hacking and what they are trying to do.

That is a seriously spiffy utility, Heretic. Thanks for the link. Hopefully I'll remember it once I get home tonight. ;)

When I want to remember something like that I send myself an email. I am terrible at remembering things.

Funny you should mention that. I've been having people probing my NETBIOS as well. It's systematic too. Mostly from the same IP and pinging my ports one at a time.
I feel pretty safe behind my firewall but I always wonder what they're up to. I've been meaning to hack back but I don't have the time or inclination to do so. It's not worth the hassle.

Kind of an interesting product logo,...hmmmmmm. :D
Yeah, probably not the best logo for people that are paranoid about security.

Interestingly (for you at least) - I found a reference to this product while doing research on how to network our computers to the SB dish.

This is a very good Port scanner to test which ports are open ...

Yep - we had a thread on this sometime back, with everybody reporting their results. I have two firewalls - one is half in my satellite modem and half in the software for the satellite proxy, the other is Zone Alarm. Between the two Shields Up says I am totally stealthy.

I am going to setup a gateway computer running Win2K so LC and I can share my satellite 'net connection, then probably run Linux and W2K on this computer for devo work. Starband won't run on Linux unless you run it in a VM, and since I would want to leave the gateway computer on anyway (so LC can surf when he wants to), it is just simpler to dedicate a computer for that purpose.
