The details were revealed by Sean Hannity of Fox News, who spoke to the president shortly after the strikes. Hannity added that he had been told by Trump officials that Fordow was 'gone.' A U.S. official suggested Fordow had been 'taken off the table.' It had previously been suggested that only two bunker busters would be needed to destroy the site. Trump said B-2 stealth bombers were used to deliver the bunker busters.

The bombs can only be delivered by the B-2 stealth bomber, which is only found in the American arsenal. If the bunker busters were indeed deployed in the attack, it will have been the first combat use of the weapon. If I remember correctly that’s how Israel took out Iraq’s nuclear reactor, but on a much smaller scale. They bombed the outside shell then followed up with an another bomb that traveled through the hole created by the first bomb.

Trump’s former national security adviser in the first term, John Bolton, is a hawk who no fan of the president. It’s been interesting to hear his take on the situation just days before the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Bolton has been a long time outspoken critic of the JCPA deal and one of his biggest objections was permitting Iran to have its own uranium enrichment capabilities.

According to Bolton, negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program were started by the Europeans in 2003. The conditions they were willing to accept allowed Iran to have a civilian nuclear program but it could not have the capacity to enrich uranium. They would buy fuel rods from outside countries and return them when the fuel was spent. Iran insisted that it needed domestic enrichment capability.

Obama capitulated in the 2015 JCPA deal negotiated by John Kerry, despite strong objections by other Arab nations in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and the UAE. Bolton believes that concession was a fatal mistake.

One of the interesting points he makes regards the common perception that enriching U235 from roughly 3.5% for civilian use to 90% for military grade is a huge leap. He says its not. Enriching to 3.5% reactor grade represents about 70% of the time and effort needed to reach 90% enriched military grade.
