One of my two-year old stories has a recent surge in the numbers of views and votes. I can only imagine it was listed as a ‘similar story’ on another recent popular story. I’ve checked recent winning and/or popular stories without success. I am curious: is there any way to see what other stories this particular work is listed as a similar story to? Tx.

You could check the related/recommended stories sections (whatever it’s called) in other ones but that would probably take forever. It could be that a bunch of newer ones have yours in that section at the end.

I love reading an older story, based upon one of those recommended links, responding and bringing it back to the forefront, at least for a few days.

Did you try checking your story to see if its 'similar' links go to anything that looks like a plausible source? The whole thing is kind of opaque and mysterious, and offhand I don't think there's much cross-connectivity like that, but it's hard to say, and that's about the only avenue I can think to explore.

The fact that people can apparently publish curated story lists on their profiles now (aside from just their so-called favorites) could also be a factor, although that's possibly even harder to check.

Which story?

Another possible explanation is that it popped up in the "random stories" list on the hub page for that story's category.

If you want to find out on which stories' similar stories lists your story appears, the first thing to do would be to check your story's own similar stories list, and then look up those stories and their lists. I have done this and found my stories on other lists this way.

Another way: look at your story's tags and then do a search for stories using the same tags, then look at their lists.

Getting your story on similar story lists is a great way to boost your story's views, votes, and favorites. It's not as easy thing to "choose" to do, because success is circular: the more lists your story is on, the more popular it will be, but it won't get on many lists if it isn't very popular. One way to maximize your chances is to use tags cleverly.
