Updating avatar

I've submitted an updated photo TWICE and it's not changing in my profile. What am I doing wrong???

I submitted my first avatar several times over a couple weeks and then it appeared one day.

Shortly before the end I did a save as with a different, longer file name (I kept uploading the same file, no go), but I probably also could have worn coconuts on my ears and made little red cones hoping for a crate to fall from the sky and gotten a similar outcome.
