Feeling feisty tonight, aren't we?

*And in my waking dream all the threads did melt together like crayons. I made of them something that resembled stained glass but which could not withstand direct sunlight. It made me cry before I began to laugh hysterically. My stomach and back should have hurt but I was too healthy for that shit.*

Um, sorry? I'm mixed up? Please forgive? I should to sleep.

*bow* *scrape*

AKA: maybe.

No more gross-out topics!

If you have been a member of the forum for less than 6 months and/or have less than 100 posts, you will not be permitted to start a topic.

Respect your moderators! They were given that position based on their superiority!
Sir Quam,

if you don't mind me asking, would you please be so kind as to explain how our moderator Marquis gained his superiority? I seem to remember that you always found his ways rather immature and lacking responsibility.

I understand the superiority of Catalina, even though she's a woman and a slave, but I believe she is watched and guided by Francisco.

It's good to see you back, Sir.

I honestly really, really try with the search function. I never seem to be able to find anything of any worth at all. :(

You and me both. I can type in the exact name of a thread and it'll tell me it's not there.

The search function hates some people

Some days I qualify for that list.

Other days, I put in the precise name and it gives me 25 other titles with that one hidden in there.

I am sure it likes to play mind fuck games.

Its easier to try to remember who started the thread and find through their name, thus thwarting the search function and its dark ways.

Yep, that's pretty much what I try to do. But sometimes I can't remember who started the thread and I'm SOL.

You know . . .AA and RJ don't have any problems with that evil search function. . . . I wonder . . . .

Doesn't work for newbies, though.

Maybe the search function is part of the domly conspiracy. It's that way so that subs are dependent on the Doms for finding anything.

The search function here is hardly user-friendly.

I also fail to see why a repeated question is irritating to someone who, after all, is free to simply ignore it.

In all my years attending meetings with a mixture of newcomers and experienced people, I have never once heard anyone respond to a question by saying, "We've been asked that question many times before. Head down the hall to the library, and come back when you've got something original to talk about."

Good grief.

Of course, newcomers are sometimes referred to books, websites, etc. But always in a polite and helpful way. Like this:

It doesn't irritate me, if I don't feel like answering I don't.

What irritates me is not being able to find anything in this darn forum. grr

Well . . . that's what I think.

Half the time when i'm searching, I forget to adjust the length of time I want to search back. I forget to set it to "search from any date" and only get the past 3 months or so.

Yes, you're right. Some one else said it's not user friendly and this is a really good example of that.

You have to pay real close attention to every little nook and cranny on that search function or else you don't find ANYTHING.

I can't find anything, either. I just PM those in the know.

Ah, we tend to be nicer here than the responses I see on Alt and Bondage when a popular question is asked for the thousandth time. As to the why should it bother us, there could be a variety of answers. Usually I don't take issue unless I feel strongly it is a set up (yes, they happen), and of course there are often times when a question is asked and a matter of threads away, definately on the same page, there is at least one other thread asking the same question...that is not hard for someone to see.

Most who get agitated do so with questions which have been fast and frequent in recent days/weeks, come across in a confrontational or demanding way, seem to be derogatory towards our choices, or seem that no matter what anyone says, it is not good enough for the OP. Sometimes you just get tired of answering week after week the perils of trying to convert reluctant vanilla partners to the world of kink etc....after answering a few time, it begins to sound and feel jaded. And of course, if no-one answers as you say is our right, we then get accused of not wanting new people here and being hostile and cliquish...even if we point them in the direction of similar threads as I have done sometimes because I am rushing out the door and don't have time for more and no-one is answering...still I have been abused and accused for doing so. Not by all, but some. It is one of those no win situations and unfortunately we are only human and can give so much without feeling the need for rejuvenation.

As to the search function, it is downright nasty. I have fed the thread title correctly and thread starter into the search function and not got a result, but after hours of backtracking manually through the forum, there it is just as I referenced it. Go figure...that is one of the advangtages of the library as at least some of the threads are compiled there for easier access.

Catalina :catroar:

Funny, I just PM'd Chris with the exact same comments, Catalina.

I don't know how AA does it but he can almost always find for me what I can't. I just try not to impose on him unless I'm absolutely at the end of my rope.

These days though, it's rare that I'm looking for anything.

Heh. Try looking for a word that can have a couple different meanings. I did a search a while back on switches, as in "go get a switch", not someone who plays on both sides of the whip. But there's no way to specify what definition of the words you're searching for and still leave it vague enough to get a decent selection to read from. *laughs*

Oh, indeed. It's a pretty frustrating place. ;-)

Usually I don't get annoyed that fast. But if I point someone somewhere where they can do more reading on the matter, and they don't go, but rather try bullying everyone into repeating whatever, it doesn't add to my liking of the poster.
I don't mind if sometimes 'old' topics get talked about again, because there are always new posters, or old posters whose opinion changed, that have something interesting to add. And if we don't talk about some things more often than once, we can shut down all pretension of serious talk about BDSM and just talk silly all the time. There just aren't endless topics to start interesting threads about and where others can participate.

All fair points about the rudeness of some in asking questions on this board.

However, I've seen clearly well-intentioned and polite people become frustrated with the search function and start new threads on old topics ranging from the serious (chris9 on Punishment) to lighthearted (graceanne and Brioche, with the double 'yay' threads).

A blanket admonishment, "The search function is right fucking here!" chastises them as well as the obnoxious. That's what I am objecting to in my comments here.

And you might feel the same frustration RJ felt, after you've been here for several years. Or you might not. I understand this frustration and is why I rarely post to any threads.

How many "pussy- shaved or not?" threads do we have to suffer through? LOL In fact, that's sort of become an inside joke to many of us.

But whatever... most people are rude one day and not the others. Some time back when AA posted something similar to what RJ did, he was crucified for it.

I'd post *shrugs* but I really hate doing that sort of thing. LOL

What he said. If you don't like a thread topic don't read it. If you're *so* tired of seeing new people ask questions you've seen too many times before, maybe you spend too much time at Lit? Just sayin'...

I do understand the feeling of becoming burned out, and tired of addressing questions that I have heard or responded to dozens of times before.

That's when I stay home from events with newcomers, and pick another activity to occupy my time.

yes, and why I post to very few threads anymore. Same thing.

Tips for the search function ............

Always go straight to Advanced Search

Even if your aware of key words in the title switch the settings to 'search entire posts'.

Change settings also to show results by posts.

I agree the Search Function can be frustrating however now I accept that there are certain limitations with the program and the above simple steps often get me the result I had desired its quite satisfactory .
