Unwarranted Criticism

I have shut off my feedback because a couple of racial slurs, remarks about my sexuality, etc. I never expected this when I submitted my story. (I guess I was naive to think that people were writing these stories for erotic purposes). I certainly can take criticism, but when the feedback is personal, I have to draw the line. All feedback of this nature was anonymously given, and I don't understand why people should not have to take responsibility for their comments. Do away with anonymous feedback! I have started to allow feedback once again, but if it becomes ridiculous again, I will shut it off...

I find that turning off feedback is a double-edged sword, even the anonymous kind.

Every now and then even the most hateful idiot has something useful to say about your writing... sort of like the theory that an infinite number of monkeys typing for an infinite amount of time are bound to type a complete shakespearean play.

But my mind does work differently and the haters make me feel better about myself... sort of in the way that watching stupid people can make you feel better about your own intelligence.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Just checking that we are all on the same page here and know that you can turn off all feedback, or just turn off anonymous feedback (so people have to leave an email address if they want to leave feedback.)

Some people enjoy leaving hateful feedback, would you believe?!? It is not uncommon, particularly in the loving wives category. Sometimes they haven't even read the story, just saw that is was in a particular category like non-consent or incest. Just ignore them, if you can. It hurts, but it isn't really personal. The problem lies with the childish person getting their kicks by trying to insult people who obviously have the talent and skill to string 2 words together :rose:

You have every right to tell your critics to come out in the open. Should I read a story of yours and dislike it, I either won't vote at all or write you directly. Although it it may not be such a hot idea, I almost never give a story less than a 5 rating if I vote on it at all. I've given a 4 on a rare occasion, and gave a single notorious 1, but I prefer not to vote at all on a story I dislike. I prefer to give specific criticism only to those who ask for it (specific praise is different), and I detest name-calling.

This unpaid self-plug was not solicited by anybody and should not be taken as a reflection on anything except my ability to keyboard.

While you can turn off anonymous feedback, it only turns off anonymous e-mail feedback. It doesn't stop anonymous PCs.
I turned off my anonymous feedback so that people couldn't send an e-mail to be directly and insult me without giving an e-mail address. So if they're going to do it, they'll be doing it right where all my readers can see. While I generally go in and delete those eventually, I rarely get to them before my readers do.
People who hit you with personal insults should just be ignored. Chances are they didn't even read your story. They're simply bored assholes who have no talents of their own that they nurture.

Hey you can't let it get to you

I get lots and lots of hate mail and I don't really pay attention to any of it anymore. Hell I flame people to but when I tell you you suck I leave my name and email address.
