Unsuccessfully trying to upload profile photo

I have been trying to upload a photo to my profile now that I have published my first story. I am saving the image after I crop it and then I save the changes to my profile. After that, it says it is waiting moderation, but nothing ever happens. I have waited quite a while to see if the photo would show up before posting for help on your tech board. Thank you for your assistance.

Define 'quite a while'.

It's been taking anywhere from several days to a month or more.
