Unpopular opinion? Loyalty to a politician or party is unpatriotic.

Hear me out.

A patriot should be willing to turn on any politician or political party that fails to put the best interest of the nation first, and allows either corruption, incompetence, or misguided beliefs to hinder their performance. In fact, if you truly love your country, no politician will ever be good enough, they will only ever be the best that was available at the time. You should actively look for the flaws in government and point them out, publicly and loudly, because your country will always deserve better than they are doing.

I'm getting more patriotic with age. And all our politicians are cunts.

I hate discussing politics on this page. It's a place i come to avoid the constant political chatter. However, that being said, you are correct on this one.

I will add - I don't add my vote in single candidate races, ever. If they are unopposed, I don't have a choice and therefore choose to abstain.

And in instances where I haven't had an opportunity to research, I usually skip those issues and races as well.

In other words, I research my ballot initiatives well and vote for things I support or in some cases vote against those initiatives/candidates I strongly oppose.(It's rare that I vote in opposition to candidates)

Party loyalty is tribal loyalty. Leaving a party is easier if another tribe is more personally important, like a large family, church, sports team, etc.

A person chooses to align with a political party that most closely reflects their personal beliefs, etc. Unfortunately, a 2 party system won't offer a complete match. There are knuckleheads on both sides. :)

I was with you until you threw that in.
Yes. The simplistic view that ALL politicians are cunts is precisely how Trump got a foothold to convince just enough voters to suddenly and irrationally rip almost all of our institutions and alliances apart.

On Lit, you need only look for those who giddily celebrated this 2024 suicide pact to understand the destructive nature of extreme partisan politics.

Yes, dear. UK.
When I say "all our politicians are cunts" I'm obviously referring to the politicians of my own country.

He missed your bolded word on the first 10 read throughs. Prolly because it had too many letters in it.

Well, Farage is obviously a cunt and the Tories that fucked over the UK for 14 years were cunts too, but the Liberals haven’t been in office long enough to prove their cunt-ness one way or the other.

Which UK politicians do you rate as uncunty?
These are semantics that are irrelevant to the rise of a dictator in the USA who is purging anyone who disagrees with him.

You made the obvious point about no one being perfect, but if you take that to an extreme you end up with an adolescent view of government, similar to the character Holden Caufield in Salinger's book, Catcher in the Rye.

Trump is very much like Caufield in terms of emotional development. So are those who are currently celebrating his temper tantrums.

The situation in the UK is very different. The USA is now in an emergency situation due to one party insisting on a purity test for loyalty.

Read the room.

Down here in Texas we have a stark choice: Good vs. Evil
  • "Good" is, of course, the Democratic party, which is the party of Truth, Justice and the American Way.
  • "Evil" is, of course, the Republican party, which exists solely to perpetuate the White patriarchy and promote school shootings. Lately the Republicans f=ave taken to supporting authoritarian fascism, which rose to popularity since the election of Orange Julius Caesar

We used to have a single box on all ballots to 'vote straight party' for 50 or so years. Then Governor Greg 'Hot Wheels Hitler" discovered that over the past 5 or so years, more people were using it to vote straight Democratic so he had his legislature remove the option.

Now I must swipe through 100+ screens each election to vote for each Democratic candidate, which I willingly do.

I proudly "vote blue, no matter who".

If a rare bad apple gets elected as a result of my vote, I won't vote for him/her in the next election cycle.

I always vote Democrat because Republican politicians and commentators only care about rich people. Anything else they talk about is campaign rhetoric. I agree with some of Trump's policies, but I dislike him because of this personality and character.

Did you see any of the Liberal Democrat campaign?? It's like a lefty attempt at Boris buffoonery.

No, this is my personal opinion on the politics currently affecting me. It's irrelevant to you, because you're not here.

Alternatively, I look at what each party has done or said in recent history and think, "cunts".

This would be an English definition of what constitutes a cunt. Significantly broader than the American definition, but not quite as broad as the Australian definition.

"Nobody else is allowed to voice discontent because my situation is worse than yours!!!"

Don't be a twat 🙄
