AN INNOCENT man who was left naked in a police cell with two broken kneecaps had been falsely accused of rape, a new report reveals.

A report published by the Independent Police Complaint's Commission (IPCC) has revealed the 49-year-old Russian man, who "could hardly walk" when he was arrested, was left in his cell at Clough Road police station for five hours.

During that time, he soiled himself and repeatedly told staff he was in pain.

The woman who had accused him of rape - which led to his arrest - later admitted lying and was cautioned for wasting police time.
