United States Senate Mega-Thread

The rumors were that Peters really wanted to run for the Governorship in 2014, but national Democrats pushed him to run for the United States Senate instead that year. Not shocked Peters called it quits after 12 years: This tells me Peters knows deep down; the Democrats will NOT regain control of the United States Senate until either 2028 or 2030 at the earliest.
Eh, if anything his retirement might shore up the Dems' hold on that seat. Peters has never been a champion vote-getter. And remember, Michigan hasn't elected a Republican senator since 1994.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: United States Senator Tina Smith (DFL-MN) will NOT be seeking reelection to second full six-year term in 2026, which tells me the Democrats can forget about winning back control of the United States Senate next year or even 2028.
You expect the Republicans to pick up a seat in a midterm election with an unpopular Republican president in one of the bluest states in the country? Ermmmkayyyyy...

BREAKING NEWS ALERT:
Wednesday, 12 March 2025: Three-term incumbent United States Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) announcing she will NOT be seeking reelection to fourth six-year term in 2026 after 18 years of representing the Granite State in the United States Senate.

Expect the Republicans to be aggressively pushing former New Hampshire Governor
Christopher Sununu to run for the United States Senate.
