Unexpected feedback

Have any of you put up a story and had your readers react in an entirely unexpected way?

I just put up a new one called "A Dish Best Served Cold"

It's a little revenge fantasy written (at least I tried) from a feminist perspective. 40 y/o woman gets dumped for a trophy by the husband and sends him a tape of her doing all kinds of nasties as a kind of FU parting shot.


Man, I've been getting some real hate mail over this one. Seems a lot of folk out there hate my female lead, general opinion from the feedback front is she's a real bitch.

I was trying to make her the sympathetic one.

Yes, I have gotten unexpected responses, so I know what you are going through. What is weird is when you think you've written an "okay" story, and you get tons of feedback telling you it was great! Our audience is sometimes a hard to predict!

I just finished reading this story, because being just over 40, I felt I could see if you might have "captured" the right essence or if it might be off-base. I promise I won't give an indepth feedback!

I thought this story was totally hot! Loved it! And no, I'm not divorced, so it wasn't a "you can relate to the whole thing". I thought you summed up both characters very well, in a concise manner. The story flowed well, and seemed "realistic". I could actually picture some doofus sitting on his couch, stroking himself, while watching the woman he let go thoroughly enjoying herself. I know as I was reading it, I want to know just how far Beth would take it!

Yes, Beth did come across as slightly "bitchy", but hell! It is a story of revenge!! What do people think? That she's gonna be all nicey-nicey? I'm wondering what people were expecting!

Anyway, I enjoyed the story, and my vote will relfect that. Could be you might have touched off some nerves from some divorced guys who did the same thing? I dunno, but will read your other stories as well.

That was the reaction is was hoping for lol. All of the feedback received to date had been from guys, you may have hit it with your comment. Maybe I hit a nerve or something. I was trying to write a 'woman's' story - whatever the f that is. I origionally wrote it as a present for my wife - who liked it by the way.

Guess I was feeling a bit insecure.

Good God, you received hate mail over that? Hard to believe. I found and read the story and think you did a h... of a job with it. Wish my writing could be that good! You must have a reader(s) that really got burned in a divorce. I guess all of us, no matter the gender, who have been there and done that feel that way at some point.
Anyhow, I think you met your stated objective and did a great job doing it.
So there to all who were upset with the story. I enjoyed it!

Thanks Justin. Actually I got 3 different nasty ones on that, 3 different addresses. ONE I could blow off, THREE was giving me a complex. Thanks for the kind words.
