Chad watched as the men went running in every direction. He went in the general direction that he had seen the blur go. He looked around and then he heard a scream. As he moved toward the scream he saw one of his team members standing there, and heard hime say, "You're a real pain in the ass little girl!"

Chad noticed that the man was standing over something. As Chad moved closer, he realized that it was Skylar that the man was standing over. He saw the man's foot on her throat. Without sayin a word he took the Sig Sauer 9mm out of his waistband, raised it and fired one shot. The shot landed right between the man's eyes and he fell to the ground; partially laying across Skylar.

He walked up to the man and kicked him off of her. Then Chad grabbed Skylar's arm and pulled her to her feet. "For all of your looks you don't have a lot of common sense young lady. You are one lucky lady. If I had not come back when I did, or, if I hadn't followed you out here you would be dead. Daddy didn't make sure you had any common sense, did he?"

Skylar was dragged back to the warehouse and up the steps to her holding room. She tried to talk to Chad as he pulled her, but he would not listen to her. He pushed her into her room, and closed the door behind them. "What the hell were you thinking? Do you want to die?"

Skylar screamed when a gun fired and she saw a red dot appear between the thug's eyes. His dead wait instantly fell atop of her and she kicked and struggled against it, sure that whoever had shot him was gonna come after her next. But she saw Chad standing there. He grasped her arm and yanked her to her feet making her wince as her wrist throbbed.

He berated her for not having any common sense and she tried to speak, to explain, but he wouldn't let her get a word in edgewise. He dragged her to her room and practically slung her inside.

He yelled at her then asking what the hell she had been doing. She backed away from him and bumped against the other wall. Was HE going to kill her??

"What the hell did you expect me to do?!" She screamed back as tears formed in her eyes and finally leaked down her cheeks. She had fought and fought her emotions but a sense of hopelessness was settling upon her. The tears began to stream from her face.

"What am I supposed to do? Just stand here and wait for someone to come in and do whatever the HELL they want to do with me?! You tell me to trust you but why SHOULD I? You kidnapped me, took me away from my home to God knows where and you wont even tell me why!" she half screamed/half sobbed as she sank to the floor against the wall.

He listened to her scream and rant without saying a word. He smiled at her as she asked what he expected her to do. When she was finished and had slumped to the floor, he put his hands under her arms and carried her over and sat her in the chair.

"You were worried what they would do to you, right? Well, if I hadn't come back you would be dead, but before they killed you they would have gang-raped you and tortured you. They would have laughed as they raped and inflicted pain that you never want to think about, let alone experience. Now, had theat happened, many of them would be dead instead of just the one, but you would have been gone too." He paused to let that sink in for a second.

"Tell me where you were going. You have no idea where you are. I am sure you tried to figure out where we went after I grabbed you, but you have no clue. Even if you got out of where we are, you never would have made it home. There are a few hungry animals out there that would have been happy to taste your sweet flesh.... and I am not talking about the pigs that work for me." He stopped and watched her.... what ws she thinking, he wondered.

Chad lifted her into his strong arms then and placed her in the chair. His eyes bore into hers as he questioned relentlessly. He explained how the men would have raped her violently and she shuddered at the picture he painted, her eyes growing haunted.

He asked where she had been planning on going and she merely look at him with frightened eyes. She had no answers. She just wanted to get out of there.

"I don't know where I was going. I don't know. I just know I need to get out of here" she whispered. "Wouldn't YOU try to escape if you were me? If you were stuck in the midst of nothing but a bunch of killers?! Noone you could depend on but yourself? Not a damn good guy in the bunch? What the hell would YOU do?" She whimpered.

Of course she didn't know he was DEA so she didn't know she was in good hands... but she was verging on hysterical now...

"Well sweetie, if I were you, I certainly would have thought out a plan much better than you did. I would have noticed that there was someone who seemed to be doing everything possible to reassure me and protect me from the animals around me that maybe doing something when he wasn't around probably wasn't real smart."

He waited a second for that to sink in and then he continued, "You have no skills to survive in this environment or the environment into which you would have placed yourself if you had been 'lucky' enough to escape. I am sure you have a very specific set of skills, but they are not conducive to survival in this environment."

He took her chin in his hand and raised her head to look into her eyes. "When I give my word, I keep my word. I promised to keep you safe, and I will, but you need to cooperate. Do as I say and your pretty little self will be home before you know it."

Skylar listened to Chad, feeling chagrined. He was right. It had been dumb to try and run. Anything could have happened to her. But she was desperate. He took her chin gently in his hands and maintained eye contact with her. He assured he would protect her if she cooperated. And God help her she believed him.

She didn't know why... maybe because he had been so gentle with her, maybe of was because he had been really her only human interaction for what seemed like ages but had only probably been 20 or so hours... but she was beginning to trust him. She had forced herself to stop crying by then, hardening herself. She gazed at him with dry, red eyes.

She couldn't believe the urges that overwhelmed her then. She wanted to lean into him, to feel his arms comforting her... to KISS him. Why on earth she didn't know... but she wanted to... wanted to desperately. Her eyes drifted down from his eyes to his lips and her pupils dilated. What was wrong with her??

He smiled at her. He could tell that she knew he was right. He could also tell that something was going through her mind that had her confused. He watched her eyes drift from his.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door and some yelling from outside. He turned his back to her and leaned back against her as he drew his gun. "What?" he shouted. The voice on the other side of the door informed him that the shipment was on the move and due to arrive at the crossing right on time. He said "ok, I will be out as soon as I am finished with her." There was some giggling on the other side of the door and then there was quiet.

He turned back to her; closer to her than when he had last faced her. He looked into her eyes again. "You are closer to being home than you realize. Please, do not do anything else stupid. I do not want anything to happen to you."

A loud knock on the door broke through Skylar's crazy thoughts. Chad spun and drew his gun, and leaned back against her, seemingly shielding her body. She could feel the play of the muscles in his back against her upper arm and gasped softly.

The man outside shouted about a shipment and Skylar understood. this wad about drugs. Smuggling them into the country via her fathers land. Contrary to what Chad thought she did have common sense and was smart. She got it. He turned back to her then, his face a mere two inches from hers and she inhaled sharply.

He pleaded with her to behave and said he didn't want her hurt. She didn't understand why he would really care but she didn't question it.

"I swear I wont go anywhere. Will... will you be traveling with me when I go home?" She asked worriedly, afraid of traveling along with the goons outside that door.

He smiled at her when she sked him if he would be trvelling with her. "I may.... I may not. You will be blindfolded, so, you won't know who is with you or where you are going. Once again, I told you that I will keep you safe. If you believe that, you will relax."

Suddenly there was banging at the door again. Shouting from outside the room caused Chad to remove the gun from his waistband and put his finger to his lips; making sure she ws quiet. He looked around momentarily and then leaned in and whispered to her, "If I tell you to go, head over to that corner and move the rug. There is a trp door under there that leads to a back stairway. At the bottom of the stairway is a motorcycle. Start it. Wait for 2 minutes. If I don't show up in that time, ride away. Find the highway and then find the police."

He then turned to the door and began to speak to the men on the other side. It was obvious they were not happy. They were upset about Chad killing their friend. With that he turned, and without saying anything nodded to her and pointed to the corner. It was clear he wanted Skylar to go.

Skylar was once again startled by a loud banging on the door. She jumped and then listened to every word that Chad said intently. A trap door?? Motorcycle?? He was telling her a way out?? She nodded her understanding, her eyes wide, heart in her throat.

Chad opened the door and she heard men shouting in Spanish... only some of which she could understand. But then Chad turned and nodded to her. He wanted her to go. Suddenly she didn't want to leave him but knew she had to. She turned and lifted the rug, opening the trap door. She glanced back with worried eyes encore descending into the dark room below. She found the motorcycle and looked it over... she figured out how to start it and it rumbled to life beneath her. How did she judge two minutes? She had no clue...

Jesus... Chad come one... she silently prayed. Please don't make me do this alone...

She heard a shuffling noise and had to bite her lip to keep from crying out. Her eyes shuffled around the room nervously trying to find the source of the noise.

Chad watched as Skylar moved the wrong and then descended into the trap door. He continued talking to the men, but he could tell they were not going to agree with him that shooting their friend was necessary. They became more and more agitated. Slowly Chad backed away from the door.

He heard the roar of the motorcycle engine, which ws muffled by the floor beneath them. He knew that this was not going to end well, so, he made a quick decision. He fired four shots through the door. He knew that they were not expecting that and would not have their weapons at the ready. Then he darted to the trapdoor and down the steps. He wasn't worried whether or not Skylar would leave him behind, his previous speech to her about what these men would do to her would guarantee that she would wait for him; possibly even too long if something had happened to him.

He jumped onto the bike and said to Skylar, "Hold on." He burst through a flimsy door, made that way to facilitate his escape. The motorcycle roared out of the warehouse and into the darkness. He did not put the lights on yet. He waited until they were out on the highway before he did that. Once on the highway he went for a couple of exits and then got off and travelled through some back roads. he had planned this escape. There ws always the chance that working with such a rogue group could require a quick exit.

Skylar hPeard the muffled sounds of gun shots and bit backs a cry. Those shots were followed by Chad racing down the stairs and leaping onto the bike Skylar gasped as he yelled hold on and drove right through a door. Wood shattered but didn't hurt either of them.

Suddenly they were flying through the night without any lights on. The fresh air felt glorious... she hadn't been able to appreciate it before. Her hands had been wrapped tightly around Chad's lean waist as they raced away from the warehouse but as he turned on the headlights and slowed to an almost normal pace on the highway she let go and allowed the wind to caress her entire body.

Eventually he took an exit and some back roads. Skylar wrapped her arms around his waist again and gave in to the urge to lean her face against his broad back. She could feel the hard muscles underneath her cheek and sighed softly. The night air was chilly but his body heat was keeping her warm enough. The vibrations of the bike beneath them was soothing... almost like being on a horse ... but then again not at all like it.

They rode for a while and Skylar had no clue where they were going. She actually felt her eyes growing heavy from lack of sleep, so she tightened her arms around his waist and closed them, just trying to rest for a little while until he got where they were going. She trusted him to take them somewhere safe.... it might be the worst decision of her life to trust a drug dealing criminal .. but she did.

Chad rode for miles along a series of roads. His plan was already formulated, he just needed to get to his hiding place to put it in action. Skylar's arms around his waist felt good, and her pressing herself closer to him felt even better.

He made a left turn onto a busy street and then a right into a parking lot. It was a hotel parking lot. He pulled the motorcycle around behind the hotel and parked it out of sight. As he dismounted the motorcycle, he took Skylar's hand and led her toward the back entrance to the hotel. "Just be calm and follow me. Remember who just kept you alive, and my promise to keep it that way."

They made their way to the elevator. They got on the elevator and rode to the sixth floor. When the doors opened, they turned left at the elevator and walked to room 654. He opened the door with a key he removed from his pocket. He allowed her to enter first and then he followed her in. "Looks a little better than where you have been recently, doesn"t it? We are going to hang out here for a little while. The goons will never find us. I need to take care of some things so that I can get you home safely. Why don't you go in and take a shower. There are some shorts and t-shirts and a pair of sweatpants in the dresser. Choose what fits you best. It won't be fashionable, but they are clean."

Chad eventually turned the bike in behind a hotel. He got off and took Skylar's hand in his, practically dragging her along. He reminded her that he had just kept her alive and would've continue to do so. She nodded. She believed him

He pulled a key out of his pocket and let them into a room, explaining what needed to be done. But why did he already have a key to this hotel? And the bike? Some things werent quite adding up. She didn't argue though... not yet. Instead she dug through the dresser and found a pair of men's sweatpants with a drawstring, and a tshirt... men's again. But they would do.

Skylar went into the bathroom and turned on the hot water. She glanced at herself in the mirror and grimaced. She looked like hell. Her hair was limp, her eyes shadowed and her skin pale. Groaning she turned away from the mirror and stripped. She used te shower to clean her underwear and bra and hung them up on the shower rod to dry. She then stepped beneath the hot spray and groaned softly as it beat against her body.

After a while she used the hotel shampoo and soap to clean herself and hopped out, slipping into the warm sweats and shirt. Her nipples showed from the t-shirts but there was nothing she could do about it. Her underthings were still wet.

She them gathered up her clothes and padded into the bedroom area again. She had finger combed her hair the best she could and the clothes clung to her damp body. She gave Chad a shy smile as she walked in. It was then she noticed there was only one bed... the thought stuck in her mind like glue.

While Skylar was in the shower he made a phone call. He called the leader of the cartel and told him what had happened. "I told you to let me pick my own team, but you insisted on using those worthless pieces-of-shit. I have the girl. You carry out the rest of the plan. I will take care of her to make sure that everything goes down as planned."

Then he made another call. "The plan is in motion..... tonight...... the Vance ranch." He then hung up. He could hear the shower running and the thought of a hot shower sounded so good. He took off his shirt and sat back in the chair. He knew there was just the one bed and he wondered what she would say about it. He smiled thinking about what it would be like to watch her reaction.

When she came out he saw her smile, but what he really noticed was her erect nipples pressing against the t-shirt. He watched her closely and saw her look at the bed. He smiled, got up and walked toward the bathroom. "I need a shower. If you decide to leave it is on you."

Skylar's mouth went dry when she saw Chad there without a shirt. Her chest was sculpted to perfection. Desire shot through her veins immediately. God. She was going to be sharing a room with this man. A man she desired more than any other. What a hell of a night it would be.

He stood then, smiling. He told her he was getting a shower and if she wanted to leave she could. He probably expected her to do just that... but she wouldnt. She truly did trust him. Instead of running she sat down on the bed with her legs crossed. She was too restless to lay down.

She listened to the water running and pictured Chad in the room, naked and under the water. She groaned in frustration. What the hell wad wrong with her?? She flung herself back against the pillows and sighed. That was the position she was in when he came back out... her shirt riding up on her flat stomach, exposing the tan expanse of her abs.

She glanced up and then sat up when she saw he was coming out.

"Now what?" she asked quietly.

Chad enjoyed the hot shower. It was rare that he took a long shower reently. He was always in a hurry to get somewhere or to do something. Now he just enjoyed the water beating down on his body. It felt good to take the time to really get clean.

He shut the shower off, grabbed a towel and dried off. It was then that he realized he didn't bring a change of clothes in with him. He wrapped the towel around his waist and walked into the room. he saw Skylar laying back on the bed with her firm, tanned abs exposed. It was a beautiful sight.

When she sat up and asked the question, he stood there looking at her. "Well, some things never change. The plan is going to continue, and I will have you home before you know it. Nobody knows where we are, but my superiors know I still have you. That way they will not look for you, and they will not do anything to harm your family. So, until everything goes down, you are stuck here with me."

A towel. He was in a towel and nothing else. Her eyes drifted greedily over his firm, lean body before she could stop them. Jesus he was gorgeous. Jaw dropping.

He explained nothing would change. She was stuck with him. She could think ofnworse.men to be stuck with... like the thugs. She shivered softly.

"I don't mind" she admitted.

"Umm... are we both sleeping in this bed tonight?" She asked hesitantly. Part of her wanted that. Another part was scared of that intimacy. She watched as he moved to grab clothes. Was shebwearing his clothes now? She figured she probably was... they dwarfed her. They were about his size.

"Its not so bad here..." she admitted quietly. "At least there aren't huge thugs with ins everywhere. I do trust you, Chad".

He looked at her when she asked about sharing the bed. "Would you like that?" he smiled at her. He grabbed a pair of shorts and turned away from Skylar. He dropped the towel and then stepped into the shorts.... pulling them up around his waist.

He didn't turn around to face her, but walked over to the phone and called down for room service. "Send up a few sandwiches and some drinks. I don't care just send something up to us that you can get here quick." He hung up the phone and then turned back to her. "Is there something specific you would like?"

He picked up the towel from the floor and walked into the bathroom to hang it up. When he returned he sat on the edge of the bed. He looked at Skylar, "So, would you like to share the bed, or would you like me to sleep on the floor?"

Would you like that?

She hesitated, not sure what to say in answer to that question. Before she realized what he was doing he turned his back to her and dropped the towel, exposing his entire back... and ass ... to her. She should have jerked her eyes away, should have averted her gaze. But she didnt... couldn't. Her eyes were eager to take in the sight of that magnificent male body. She felt like a horny teenager peeping in the window of a high school crush or something.

He didnt turn around again, instead he placed an order from room service, telling them to hurry. He asked if she wanted something and she shook her head no. Nothing except for him.... but she wouldn't say that.

He went back into the bathroom and when he returned he say on the edge of the mattress near her feet. She gazed at him quietly, unsure of what to say to him. A million questions raged in her head but she knew she shouldn't ask any of them.

He asked about the bed again.

"I can't make you sleep on the floor after you... after you got me out of there" she saodbquietlt. "Maybe we can just keep a pillow between us or something" she said... even though that was the last thing she wanted.

She wanted to be closer to him... to get to know him and why he wad willing to lead this kind of a life. It didn't make sense. But she knew she couldn't do that... shouldnt want to. The fact remained that he was a drug dealer... one of the bad guys. If this had been an old western movie he would have worn a black cowboy hat... not a white one.

She had never been so confused in her life.

"Sure, that will work. We cn put a pillow between us." He smiled at her. Then there was a knock at the door. He picked up his gun and moved to the door. "yes?" The response from the outside was "room service." "Leave it," he said. He waited a minute and opened the door, slowly. He looked both ways before bending down and picking up the tray of food.

He carried the tray into the room and put it on the table. "Help yourself. I make no guarantees about the quality of the food, but it is better than nothing." He waited for Skylar to choose what she wanted, and then took a half of a sandwich. He took one bite and put it down.

He sat on the corner of the bed and lost himself in thought. Everything was supposed to go down tonight. Hopefully, things would go as he planned. If they did, his infiltration into the cartel would have been a success. If not, ........

Skylar nearly jumped out of her skin when the knock sounded at the door. Her hand flew to her heart and she gasped softly. Chad was very thorough in making sure they were safe before opening the door.

He carried in the food and even though it wasnt the best food ever Skylar was starving and immediately grabbed up a sandwich. She dug in with gusto as Chad barely took a bite. By the time she was done he still hadn't eaten.

She reached over and placed a hand on his arm lightly. He seemed lost in thought.

"Chad are... are you OK?" She asked quietly. She was a bit worried about the way he seemed.preoccupied. what did it mean? Was something wrong?

Chad jumped a little when she touhed his arm. "Yes, I am fine. I am just going through everything in my mind. I want to make sure you are safe, and that you make it home ok."

He looked at her and it seemed like she was worried. Well, of course she was. As far as she knew she was still in danger in the company of the drug dealer that had kidnapped her.

"Skylar, I want you to know that you are going to be just fine. I guarantee it." He was concerned about the plan being carried out. If something went wrong he knew they would go into the house and kill everyone they found there. If that happened, he would have to go to his back-up plan and continue to personally protect Skylar.

Skylar nodded when Chad explained that he was just thinking. He said he wanted to make sure he was safe. She sat there for a minute... thinking as he was. Then she turned to study him a bit.

"What time is the drugs or whatever supposed be onto my fathers land? Will he get in trouble by the cops if they find out?" She asked softly.

She didn't want her father to get in trouble. She could see the headlines now.. Texas's Richest Rancher Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into America. She shuddered briefly and turned wide eyes towards Chad again. Of course she had no clue that her father could be in even worse trouble than being arrested if something went wrong. Even if he did only get arrested... he was the only true family she had. Her mother had run off when she was two and she didn't have any siblings or grandparents.

She didn't know who she could turn to if he wasn't there...

He looked at her and could see that she was concerned about her father. What she was worried about was not really a concern though. He wasn't able to answer her question honestly though, because it might give away some of his secrets.

"I don't know if he would get arrested. I think he would be able to get off because you were kidnapped. That would be proof that he ws coerced into doing something he didn't want to. I wouldn't worry too much about your father."

He placed his hand on her arm and rubbed lightly. He tried to ensure her that everything ws going to be ok. She was much more relaxed than when this ordeal first began, but she was still on edge. he wished he could let her in on what was really going on. Maybe when it was over he could apologize for putting her through this. He removed his hand from her arm, patted her knee, then he got up and put the room service tray outside the door.
