I love when a cover is done in a different style that demonstrates the greatness of the original lyrics and tune, regardless of the style.

On the other hand, a cover that mimics the original is just a rip-off, IMHO, as it shows no added artistic value.

Agreed. Didn't metallic do some such cover where the only difference was where they said the letters of their group's name during the song?

Sex Change Covers

It's always interesting when a female covers a song originally written and performed by a male about a relationship with a woman. When sung by another woman it gives it a girl on girl feel.

Two examples I can think of are

Dar Williams covering Fred Eaglesmith's 'Wilder Than Her', and

Indigo Girls covering Dylan's 'Tangled Up In Blue' I'd guess Indigo girls have plenty of others too.
