Under age story

I just got around to reading a story that is ranked as #1 in the Mind Control section (The Power). It has over 200 voters that put it there.

The story is well written, very nicely paced and shouldn't he here at all. Why? It details underaged (16 year old) sex on many occations. I thought the legal age was 18.

I write this message because I wanted a clarification if I could. What is done if it is really well received and nicely worded? Are these things allowed here? I want to write a story about a loss of virginity but would not work with a legal aged person.

Some guidance would be great.
Thanks for helping me out with guidance.

i agree a story with a 16-year-old doesn't really belong here, but why can't you write a loss of virginity story using legal characters?

why can't a loss of virginity occur over the age of 18?

It's not uncommon, you know. John Cleese lost his virginity at 24, and he's FAMOUS, I tell you.

The Power

THE POWER is a great story. It is one of my favorites on the entire site, but the protagonist and his younger sister are high school aged.

I have voluntarily held some of my work off the site because it features sex between high school students. Obviously I am not personally offended by such stories, but I didn't post them out of respect for the rules of our community--and to our site admin who bears the responsibility for what goes on the site.

I'm certainly not calling for this story's removal, nor am I campaigning to get my similar work admitted onto the site. I just hope that everyone decides to voluntarily comply to the rule and not use THE POWER as an example of why their work should be accepted onto this site. There are other sites which do take stories with underaged characters. If you feel that the spirit of your story would be compromised by changing the ages, then seek out another forum for that story.

In many countries - Britain, Australia, South Africa, and I guess lots of others - the age of consent is actually 16 not 18. I gather, though, that Laurel doesn't allow stories on the site with characters under 18 having sex (that may be the law, I'm not sure). So, maybe it was just a slip-up.

The appropriate method for handling this is to email the webmistress that you've seen a story with characters under 18. Underage characters are not permitted on this site. If you come across a story with an underage character, just email Laurel at info@literotica.com and it will be removed. Put Underaged Character in the subject line to catch her attention. She reads nearly a hundred stories a day that have been submitted for publication. She isn't a professional editor and she doesn't send back stories with editorial suggestions. Things occasionally slip through the cracks and some people aren't considerate of rules.

There should be no pedophilia stories on this site and there should be no stories featuring underage characters. It's against the rules.

I Did.

I did send an e-mail to her. No response. That is why I resorted to this public forum. Like I said originally, I liked the story as did a few hundred other people that put it to the top of the list. I also don't want people mad at me, but I see the potential for a double standard, that is all.

Yes, in my story I could make the ages more appropriate but it hurts the integrety of the storyline. I also don't think stories with under-age people having sex is necessarily a good thing to have read about, however read is better than DOING, but I digress.

I just thought there was a double standard forming - based on the merits and strength of the story that was written and posted and wanted to make sure that it was just an oversite. But it irked me that so many hundreds of people read it, praised it by voting for it and it goes against the policy set forth here.

Sorry to have brought it up in the first place. I go back into lurking and slowly, painstakingly writing my current story (although an editor once told me there is no such thing as writers block - if you can't write the situation than it is the wrong situation and your subconcience is just telling you to back up or start a new story).

Ok, I'll bite.

Can you explain this statement? :)

I didn't know litmail was down when I put my foot in the mouth back there. Hopefully Ms. Laurel gets it fixed soon, there has been much wringing of hands and dripping of tears.

I never received it, or I don't see it in my inbox. Please realize that I am out of town for the next week or so and am unable to check my email more than once a day. If you've sent the mail within the last three days, then please be aware that we get 300+ emails a day. Though I may not answer you within an hour of your mail, I will answer you.

On topic, there is no double standard. The rule is no characters in sexual situations under the age of 18. It's not an indictment of those who write stories involving such characters - it's just a rule we've made for reasons I've explained elsewhere (and as I'm currently writing this from another country on a slow connection, forgive me if I don't

It's a moot point, as the story has been removed. Please feel free to email me if you see any other stories that go against our rules. This site is a hobby for me - I have a 'real' job and a 'real' life in addition - so forgive me if I make a mistake now and then. I read & edit 40-60 stories a day, and I am human. ;)

Laurel

And a very fine human being you are too!!! I mean it. You run the very best Adult Literary site on the web and do it in such a way that we writers and readers of erotica can all get together in a non-threatening, very open environment.

It is just to sad that some people have to try to get around the few rules you do set and then others get upset if they succeed.

Keep up the good work, you have my support and admiration!!!

:) Did you give Laurel an apple along with this post?? ;)

An apple a day

Hmm, if I could figure out how to attach them to the note, I'd give her a bushel of apples. She deserves them! :)

really sorry.

Really, i am very sorry, to even make you think I was upset at you about this. You do a great job, I love you and never want to see you mad about anything, or anyone. I sent it about 2 weeks ago - I too have not gotten any mail here. I don't want to violate any rules and I don't want anyone mad at me. Although the make up sex might be worth it.

Again thank you for ALL the things that you do - that we see and that we don't see.
