Under 10 Votes ?

I'm sitting on my new series... hoping those votes go up. The one you feedbacked me about, imp.

I shall be going to everyone's stories today--I am off of work for the first time in months, a whole afternoon to spare. And I need something to do that isn't intensive.

If you don't mind, I'll ask here:

I read a story recently, and it was extremely good compared to the pitiful number of votes it had received, which meant it was prey to trolls. I sent them feedback suggesting that rather than posting a bunch of individual chapters all at the same time, to maybe let them each chapter have their week on the top lists before posting the next one to garner more votes and readers.

Was I wrong?

They ignored me, and went ahead and did it anyway, and still have miniscule votes for what is a decent story.

It would make sense to me to allow each chapter to have its week with the "N" for NEW before publishing the next.

I never write anything that long, so it's not been an issue for me :p

My latest story just passed 200 without any form of response.

It is already in Non Erotic but perhaps they all thought I was kidding, then backed out when they realized I was serious.

I'm not sure you are wrong but whether posting a long story as an entity or as a series of chapters is a difficult choice.

I have done both but multi-chapters, however spaced in posting, do not do well for the later chapters - unless each chapter can stand alone. People read the first one and either like it or not. If they don't like chapter 1 they will not even try chapter 2 and onwards. People who vote and comment on chapter 1 feel that they have done their duty so don't vote or comment on subsequent chapters.

My last year's NaNoWriMo story 'Flawed Red Silk' I wrote and posted as soon as each chapter was finished. Each of the 12 chapters was a stand alone story except that chapter 12 wrapped up the story from Chapter 1. Each chapter could be read without the others. Those 12 chapters have a higher proportion of Hs than my usual output. What was different? I think it was my fellow NaNoWriMo authors checking what I was up to.

How do you people get all these votes?

Maybe my stories just suck LOL

I know I don't vote on a story I don't finish.

I have two stories that have several thousand views and just under 10 votes.

"Lessons"
http://www.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id=85395

and "Obsession"
http://www.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id=109768

All of my poems have a couple hundred views and the most votes is 4.

I think in my case it's my writing style and subject matter that puts people off. It may not be the subject matter but just how I treat it. Idon't know, since I also don't get much feedback.

I was under the impression that this was the norm.

This person posted it in individual chapters, about a day or two apart from each other. I think in that case you either post it as one long story or let them each have thier full week of glory on the new list. I know I am the chapter queen [I can't seem to finish a bloody story], but given the choice [ie finished it!] I would probably post it as one.

I wonder why some stories don't get the views. What makes a person click on a story as opposed to another? Is it solely description, title and category? Can it be that simple?

If it's an unrecognized author, it's that simple for me.

I only read outside of my pet categories when participating in the SDC or if it's a known author.

I did get one feedback urging me to turn on PCs because that's how they chose stories to read -- from the feedback forum based upon the PCs others had left.

Yes. I have one story that includes 'breastfeeding' in the title - more views, more votes.

Any story title beginning 'The' has less views.

'AAARGH the aardvark!' would probably get more views because of its position in the alphabet.

The one that took off the fastest was entitled "Camel Toe Incest" and the description was "the thong outlined her perfectly..."

I thought, you know, flashy title/description in a package, that's the ticket.

But it seems the Incest readers are just plain that way. Views all over the shop, and lots of votes. The votes are often quite negative, however, because it is such a hot-button topic, incest. People come to it with strong prejudices about just what sort of things are supposed to happen or not happen, and will rebuke you for not matching their criteria. I got loads of negative feedbacks and a good number of positive ones. Active readership in that category.

So maybe the flashy title thing is less important than I thought.

"Undiamonded Queen" got little attention, and the title is enough to make you at least a little curious. But it's in the Erotic Couplings, where they view but don't vote or feedback so much. It's very short, too, a one-gulp story, so my usual longwindedness isn't the problem. The incest one is very short, too. I think the category may be the single biggest variable.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Now THIS pisses me off.

I got an anonymous feedback from someone who's obviously been following this thread -- and in it she (an assumption) said that she read & voted on two of my poems and one story -- with a 4/5/5.

However, when I checked those submissions, each had one more vote and ALL THREE of the scores (which were all well over 4.00) had DROPPED. Thus, obviously no 5s were given.

Why lie?

I've rectified that.
Thanks for the vote and the PC, impressive.

A Surfeit of Bard now has over 400, looks, 2 votes, 1 PC.

At least 2 people read it to the end.

Suggestible Suzie has 37 votes from nearly twelve and a half thousand peeks. The rating is low --- the way it is scored here --- but I think more than fair.

The part I find kind of scary.

After around twenty-four hours, my second piece has already been exposed to twenty times  the usual audience I'd get before I started posting here.

Must be an extraordinary number of lurkers. Some are obviously trolls (and at least one is a compulsive liar). Most, I'd like to believe, are just ... shy.

I found myself going through this same thing recently. I posted a story and saw the read count approach 3,000, but there were hardly any votes at all. The thing that I was hoping for was greater feedback on the story rather than votes. Fortunatley I started getting some really great feedback from this really hot chick, which more than made up for everything.

And she posts right here in the AH. :)

They are all 'hot chicks' here in the AH - IF you know what lights their fire and it might not be you.

Referring to them as 'hot chicks' might be counter-productive.

Intelligent, articulate and witty ladies who deserve respect might be a better description.

"Hot chicks" works for me.

Well, it works better for Shocky, but ya know. ;)

Before I came here, I never had a lot of interest in visiting Great Britain.

Thanks to the thread starter….I have a medium sized novel entitled ‘Billy’ that I began posting late last year, a chapter at a time under different categories as the content varied with each. I decided later on to have the category changed to Novels and Novellas and the number of views and votes dropped substantially.

Only one chapter, Holly, out of 13 is rated under 4.50 and I would love to have a red ‘H’ on every chapter.

This book is looking for a publisher and if you have time to look at ‘Holly’ and find a comment, it would be appreciated. I tried something new in that chapter, of having ‘subconscious voices’ as part of the dialogue. I may have done it badly and confused the reader, or the non consential sex scenes may have offended.

Thank you….
