uncool hobbies

Anyone got any hobbies that are generally counted as nerdy, weird or lame?

Table top wargaming. Hell, I run a forum on it.

AD&D, the one true role-playing game.

Online first person shooters. I had to give up WOW for another addiction.

I collect good online sex stories. I got thousands of them. Of course, I got thousands of pics and movies, too.

Genealogy. I can trace some family lines back 400+ years.

Pez dispensers

You know there is/was a Pez museum in Easton PA, right near the Crayola Factory Discovery Center?

Did I mention I am a font of useless information, too?

That is in no way nerdy!

I play the violin. Sometimes I attempt to be crafty and paint designs onto plain wooden things like photo frames.

I'm also called a "Photonerd" :D

Pens.

I love pens. Fine tip, medium tip, ink, gell, sparkly, a variety of colors, casing style/design, casing art, comfort/grip... In college I'd spend more time debating over my pen purchase for the new term than I would getting all the other supplies for the new term.

RPG's including D&D and Vampire both online in a weekly system as well as in person
Reading "Not really geeky at all"
Flying model RC Planes there seems to be mostly old people who do that
Board games we have a collection
Build Model RC plans
Watch scientific based T.V. Who knows when I might need to build a bridge or create a power generator, ect ect ect.

Does the fact that I have Tokii Wartooth from Metaloclypse as my avatar give a clue?

I love Adult Swim. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Metaloclypse, Oblongs, etc...

Geneaology.

I am a huge railfan.

and a Star Wars fan from way back...

I make imaginary stats up from hockey players who never existed or who will never exist. I also come up with stats for teams that never existed and will never exist. sometimes I get ambitious and make whole leagues like this.

Yeah. My dad doesn't understand me with all these pages of numbers I have written in several notebooks.

You have reminded me of the fact that I've read this novel, which I had until now completely forgotten about. -

The only things I do that come close to counting as hobbies are reading literary fiction and hiking in the hills.

Rare? Somebody said "rare"?

*perks up*

I don't collect them because I have oh so much not the funds to do so, but when I grow up I want to collect c18 & c19 erotica. Because ohmygoodness there is so much yummy pervertedness and ink and chain laid paper and etchings and leather in eighteenth & nineteenth century erotica. The language alone... and don't even get me started on typeface...

This is something I've also considered doing. I've also toyed with the idea of collecting authentic clothing from the same time period. I have no place to store/display either, nor funds to expend on it.

Some day. *sigh*

Okay, I'm right there too. But I also get geeked out about sharpees. I've always collected pens, but the sharpees came after being introduced to Jounar's foundness for body writing. Out of no where I become obsessed with sharpees of every size, shape, and color. When I visited him, I brought a small part of my collection which consisted of 50.

I am obsessed with everything "rennie" but I'm too shy to join a fair.

I collect barbies, but very specific ones.

I've out grown my teddy bear collection, but it's still lingering.

Porcilin dolls, again selective.

Vintage/antique kitchen gadgets. Modern ones too, but the vintage is what I really love.

Tea pots. All forms including some silver and silver plate.

Fabric. I know I use it, but I think I like collecting it as much as I like using it.

I'm super nerdy about cooking. I dig vintage cook books. My favorite one is a collection my mom made me from the newspaper clippings my great grandmother collected durring the depression. And she had one from the turn of the 20th centry, but I'd love to get my hands on older ones. Tudor era cook books simply listed ingrediants and not amounts, the idea was the only people using them would already know how to cook.

My mom teases that I collect hobbies. I don't think she's far off cause I can think of tons more that I dabble in.

If I thought any hobby of mine was lame or uncool, being the PYL that I am, I wouldn't even think of posting them, here. Of course, I have no lame or uncool hobbies, so there is no need for me to even be posting to this thread. But, maybe it's the sadist in me, I like to see where others make fun of themselves or out themselves by telling what their lame or uncool hobbies are.

It's almost like bondage together with erotic humiliation. A couple of the games I enjoy participating in. So, please continue with your posts. And keep in mind...there are some of us reading these and maybe even enjoying it a little too much.

I play classical guitar ! Wish I could be cooler and play rock lol - but there you go.

Nothing uncool about classical guitar talent. The picking action takes skill. Rock guitar might seem cool, but there are a lot of rock guitarists and not all of them are that good.

Do you play with steel or nylon strings?

I pretend to be a professional wrestler in a fictional wrestling company on the internetz.

I'm an "efedder".

I have played rock guitar, its easy... I tried to learn how to play classical style... THAT is hard as hell.

you got my respect.

It takes kids a while before they really understand what's cool. I once thought that way, too. I've been playing rock music for nearly 40 years, only on keyboards. It might take them a while, but one of these days, it will sink in. :D

I have a penguin collection.

I have all kinds of classic stuff like . . . stuffed penguins, glass penguins, stone penguins, snowglobes, clocks, bookmarks, pencil tips, even a paintset. But the oddest item so far is a label from a bag of "Penguin Fresh Garlic."

(I should have kept the garlic, but my kid wanted garlic butter on his bagel.)

OMG! Does Keroin know this?

Who decides which hobbies are cool or uncool? And whose definition are we obeying here? the sense I'm getting from this thread is that folks here see their somewhat specialized interests being "uncool" but I find this interesting in a community that defines itself by a set of more-or-less specialized sexual interests.

When I first started looking at this thread I figured that my pastimes are on the uncool side around here. I play golf, which is exceedingly popular in my demographic but which is somewhat rare among kinksters who post here. I also like to build small pieces of furniture from wood, but again I don't see it as particularly cool by anyone's definition except my own. Which is what matters to me.

Oh yeah, I'm also a total twilight freak

So's my daughter. Her bedroom is papered with twilight posters, she owns all the movies and several copies of each book. She's read those books so many times that she can recite them.

Yep. Some of the really best rock guitarists started as classical guitarists; that's what makes them awesome. Just about anyone can learn to play basic rock guitar, it takes a lot of time, energy, and skill to learn classic guitar, and if you then play rock that makes you a better guitar player than those who just play rock and roll.
