I didn't know this story until this morning. It is just fabulous and not surprising. Much like understand that what is called "Southern Food" is mostly a result of southern black and southern slave cooking, the story of Uncle Nearest and his ancestors in influencing and inventing American Whiskey cannot be understated.
Much like Uncle Nearest's ancestors, who knew the true history of Jack Daniels and the stories behind the picture included in this article, I too was drawn to it....a bunch of white guys in the segregated and racist southland with a singular black man in the center.
I'll be reading more about this....what a great story and a great legacy!
