In the Moment there seems to be no way to show signs like german "umlauts" They appear like that "äüöß".

Is there a plan to change that?

On this board they look ok, but not on Chyoo. Just take a look into the "non-english" sektion.

Umlaute

Hi Ranger,

I can't read the above response in German, so forgive me if I'm repeating...

In French, the various accentuated characters work just fine. They went wonky when they upgraded to Chyoo 2.0 and had to be corrected (every accentuated character was changed for a bunch of weird characters). But now, they are just fine.

It may be a stupid question, but... How come there are so MANY German authors and stories out there, and so few of any other non-English language?

Hi bunga,

yes that´s what I wrote; I thought I´d write in German because the Umlauts concern German writers (ah well, there is one Swedish story and they have ä too..).

Regarding the "dominance" of German in the Non-English category: I think it´s a question of passing the "critical size". One writer, MACC, started in End of 2001 to write lots of German stories and threads; so others started checking in regularly, writing, contributing, and the thing got a dynamics of its own. The most popular German stories get about 10% the views per month of the English favourites. Even the blow by the Umlaut desaster, which makes reading most of the texts rather cumbersome, could not stop it.

Regarding the
internet population , Spanish would be a more probable candidate (Chinese and Japanese probably have even more problems with the characters), but obviously here French is the next language that could make it.. good luck!

Thank you

Thanks for your replies. Then I will start to change the umlauts in my stories too.

Hey, there are "Umlauts" in French too y'know. They are called "trémas" but are much, much rarer than Umlauts in German. :) (Words like: Noël, naïf, euh.... uhm.... Poséïdon... uhm.... told you they were rare...)

Umlauts in the story title

I just started to work on my threads editing the umlauts. But how do I change the Umlauts in the story title?

If the story is not yours, then you can't... :-(

If it's yours, go to "My stories" and click on "View story summary". From there on, you should not have a problem finding the proper "Edit" button. :)
