That's one way to get an impartial decision.

Good luck, Ukraine.

And remember, it's not a dictatorship until there's no way to audit the vote.

No coup like a judicial coup.

I know some people of Ukrainian descent who've gone back. They were motivated initially by a genealogical urge, but they became involved in helping out with a little hospital near their great grandfather's home town. It's a breadbasket region, but the purges were brutal and there is a lot of dull poverty.

We were bustling about the church here, two years ago, collecting winter clothes. The missions to the Dominican Republic, for some reason, never needed warm clothes, and people were generous.

The family moved to Dexter or Milo or someplace and I've lost touch with them this past year, so I don't know how they feel about the situation.

What has been amazing is the way the demonstrators for each candidate can stand side by side without any aggressive behaviour. Both sides want democracy. One side thinks they didn't get it this time.

Was just about to start a thread about this myself.

I worry about this though. They're peaceful demonstrations because both sides think they're gonna get what they want. One side's going to be disappointed and Yanukovich's supporters have already started setting referendums for separation from Ukraine, so we know how strongly they feel about the matter. All it takes is one spark - if Yanukovich pushes through, the Americans will claim Russian interferance, if Yushchenko is proclaimed the Russians will claim American interferance.

Both countries are interfering, of course, but whichever side wins will result in a lot of disaffected Ukranians who've been promised victory by their foreign backer. I've got a bad feeling about this.

THIS is the kind of thing that the UN should step in and arbitrate in.
