I have several hundred videotapes recorded in the UK....PAL format.
I have moved to Canada and I am aware I need either a video converter or multisystem TV/VCR to be able to watch them.
I know of the Samsung VCR/converter but it's expensive.
A video coverter is cheaper and I know I can connect that to my UK VCR (appropriately adapted) but when the VCR packs up (as I know it will), I'll have a useless piece of equipment.
A multisystem TV plus multisystem VCR seems to be the answer. A lilltle more expensive than a converter and much cheaper than the Samsung VCR/Converter but they will also provide normal recording and playback facilities.
The trouble is I cannot find them in Canada. They are on US sites but the delivery costs add 150CAD and it looks like tax will be paid twice too!!!

Anyone know where I can get them in Canada or other ideas please?

All I can suggest is Ebay. Someone might have such a thing in Canada.

If there is a secondhand electrical goods store anywhere near you they might know where to source a convertor.

If you have a VCR that will play them and a television on whch tye will play one idea would be to purchase a macro buster, play them from your Brit compatable VCR and record them on a Us/Can compatable VCR.

If you're going to buy something expensive anyway, pay to have them put on DVD and then play them from your PC.

I've been quoted $20 (Can) an hour and $30 for 2 hours. I have hundreds of 3 or 4 hour tapes.....many in LP. That's thousands of $$ and one hell of a lot of sorting to do.

Buying the video/converter is much cheaper....so is a multisystem TV and multisystem VCR.

My objection is identifying the equipment I need and then finding out I have to pay at least half as much again to have the stuff delivered from the US, just because I can't find it in Canada.
I can find the stuff on so many American sites and it seems odd to find none in Canada. If I have to get it from the USA, I will....but I want to exhaust the Canadian possibilities first.
