UK Based female editor

Folks, I do not expect someone to repond to this as an editor. My question is using the FIND AN EDITOR tools, how can I find one from the UK who is female?

I write generally for girlfriends and I am told the stories are good so I think it's time to find out.

However i would prefer a female editor as my target audience is female, I suspect, and I'd prefer someone with same flavour of english as me. (UK).

Any ideas?

The short answer is you can't/. The long explanation is because the official Volunteer Editor system is almost totally defunct. Time and time again people complain of lack of replies. This is because there is no mechanism for pruning out entries from people who have stopped visiting the site, or whose e-mail is no longer valid.

Unfortunately that is your best bet. Editors are usually found on here, or by sending a PM to someone who is credited as editing a story you liked.

The other thing to consider is...what do you want from an editor?

I quit using the programme, because my experience was that he wanted to re-write ever single sentence with his plot and his style. I wanted someone, who caught the things that spell check didn't. I get lambasted sometimes now for those very things, but I prefer that to having the heart of my work gutted. I figure it is close to 99% correct (usually 3 to 5 mistakes in 2000+ words) and I write more from the heart/character anyway.

I am an American, living in the UK for the past three years, and a woman. What would you want an editor to do exactly? Cause obviously my spelling and grammar don't cut it.

Thanks for your responses. To snoopercharmbrights I hadn't realised or considered the number of defunct accounts and potential therefore of following a dead end so thanks for the heads up on that one.

To wife2hotblk, in truth as I have no experience in writing I do not know what I want from an editor. To hazard a guess I would want someone to improve my grammar, spelling and sentence structure.

To Firebrain, I cannot see your work below which I was presuming may have been a link to your profile? What I will do is look you up and then PM if that is acceptable?

What do I write... Mostly one on one (mf) but depending on my significant other at the time's fantasy there have been mmf and gang bang stories in the past. Can sometimes have elements of bondage, occasionally anal, always consenting, healthy relationship sex or sexual fanatasy. Is that of interest to anyone?

Wow I had not realised it was difficult to find an editor, i must have been lucky.
I just waded through the list and looked at profiles till I found one I liked the look of.
Contacted them and they replied within a few days.

They did a great job for me and did not tear the story apart but pointed out the grammar and tense faults while sorting out a few of my clumsy sentences. She made suggestions, I accepted some and rejected others, but both made me think more about the story and where I wanted it to go.

Like You I wanted a female editor and one in the UK, I got both.
Not sure she would appreciate this but her name is Sapphos Sister.
I am convinced that it was her help that made sure my story was well received.
