Uh...PC help, please

James, I think you actually may be right on this one. I'm having serious trouble right now.

To 'fix' the AVIRA problem go to the STARTUP MENU, RUN, Type MSCONFIG. When MSCONFIG opens CLICK 'SERVICES' and UNCHECK the AVIRA items, then CLICK 'STARTUP' and UNCHECK 'AVGNT" I think it is. Then CLICK 'OK' and 'RESTART.'

If the problems go away AVIRA is the source of the problems.

Thanks, James. Let's see what happens. :rose:

As soon as I installed AVIRA weird shit started happening, and it changed from one time to the next. Like, after I pressed the 'on' button screens took 45 minutes to change or programs took forever to load; if you waited long enough (hours) things eventually worked. And the symptoms changed from one time to the next. As soon as I disabled AVIRA no more problems. AVIRA will not let you delete it.

Avira may not let you delete it, but Autoruns by sysinternals will let you hunt down and disable al parts of it forever. Then you can use Spybot to delete it (it shows up as MalWare), or install Avast (thats what I use, and it's free). avast should overwrite it.

morning James. :)

ETA: This link will help you get rid of Avira for good. Click here

Not an AdAware fan at all. honestly, I run Spybot Search and Destroy.

Adaware is probably a wonderful program, but I just prefer the other.

no harm in running either or both. they will serve your needs just fine, and both are free.

Spybot delves a little deeper than Adaware.
