Uh oh!

Gotcha

Well, the black berets are very stylish. I can see why the potato peelers would want one.

Right...they are pretty snazzy when you shave/shape them up proper.

Were you Ranger qualified?

I never have and never will disclose my qualifications/awards/units served with....nothing personal. I served as an infantryman in the US Army 02-08, I did get deployed to the OIF/OEF theaters and I was honorably discharged/medically retired in 08.

That's about all lit gets beyond the occasional "That town/country is such a shit hole" comment.

Why would the Army send you to Ranger school and then not send you to a ranger billet?

Honestly unless you're well connected or part of a select set of MOS's you aren't going to Ranger school until they have a slot open and invite someone on a list which gets back to that connected part. SOCOM also does a lot of cross training too...improves skill sets for operators to go to moar skoolz. Nahm sayin?

They do this because they have the school, so they use it to improve their other forces. You take your high speed E4-E6's from regular line combat units and send them to the cool guy schools. They learn gangster shit and take it back to their units. They found this to be indirect but of huge benefits....our regular line infantry unit has enough guys Ranger/Sapper qualified leaders they can usually support SF operations in all kinds of ways and often do. It's made the line units as stand alone assault units FAR more effective. Having some Rangers/SF/Sappers/Snipers in your platoon make that platoon significantly mo' gangsta for obvious reasons.

It also creates a pool of replacement soldiers for your SOCOM units. Lose a platoon of Rangers or an ODA (SF) team? Just yank some guys off the line who have qualified, new unit over night.

That seems wasteful to me.

The navy wouldn't train someone to fix airplanes and then send them to a submarine.

More like take a couple of the very best mid level airplane mechanics from every hangar/CVN, send them to jet hot rod school at Lockheed Martin skunk works lab, then send them back to their units to teach the jr. enlisted new tricks and tips.

And you, doublebubble?
