UFO's, Flying Saucers, The Men In Black... Whatever. What do you think?

I was listening to Coast to Coast AM with that new guy Mike Segel (sp??.. I personally liked Art Bell better) last night as I sometimes do, and they were taking calls about what real, average people thought about UFO's and the like.

It turns out that most people believe they exist, in some form or another, AND that our dear, beloved government knows a whole lot more than they'll ever say... especially where incidents like the Roswell one are concerned. A few of those people even believe that the aliens have made contact with Earth somehow and that they are trying to "teach" us new things, while learning things from us, too, like emotion, fun, etc. Of these people, no one is quite sure whether these aliens are here in peace or here to make war...

Personally, I happen to believe that UFO's and aliens, etc. HAVE to exist because our universe is so HUGE that we couldn't possibly be the only life forms in existence. I honestly don't know what to believe about any of the rest, though. Our government's always got something up it's sleeve. As for contact with us... well, I haven't been contacted, so I don't know!!

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys think? Do aliens, UFO's, MIB's, really exist? What do you think they want with us? Have you seen one?

And... (I'm not particularly religious, so this really doesn't pertain to my beliefs on this) how does this belief coincide with your religious beliefs. Seeing as how human beings are the center of the universe, are aliens another "animal" here to serve us? Or, as some have said, are they really angels? And are they Heaven's or Hell's?

Tell me, tell me, tell me! What do you guys think?

I'm the kind of person who won't believe anything until I see it, and I've never seen any kind of UFO, or anything even resembeling them.

It all in the Bible. Just can't remember where though. Oh, that whole Daniel experience. Or was it Daniel? You know, where he described the whole NASA program, right down to the International Space Program. Or was that Al Gore? Hmmmm... no he invented electricity. Or something.

Was that any help?

I'm with you, SeXy ReDHeD, we are not alone in the universe. We are but a speck of dust in the vast configuration of things, billions and billions of galaxies, there is life out there.

Visitors from far away may be animals, but you can bet they are superior to us. No doubt about it.

Kind of hard to believe that in the vast universe that Earth is the only planet with life don't you think?

Though seeing is believing...

There are a lot of weird, unexplainable things that people overlook, never hear about, etc. I've known quite a few people (and have even been one on occasion) who have experienced something that science and conventional belief simply cannot explain. A lot of them hesitate to talk about it for one reason or another; either the event was traumatizing or they don't want to be negatively labeled by close-minded people. I'm no expert, and I wouldn't venture to say what the unexplained events are or what they mean, but I do believe there is more to the mundane world than the mundane. Either that or almost everyone I know is nuts. Not that these two options are mutually exclusive. ;)

So I don't know if I believe in UFOs per se, but I believe that the universe, reality, and everything is far too complex for us as human beings to understand fully. In the middle ages, the technology we take for granted would have been hailed as supernatural. It would have been thought: wait, a box where you put food in, push buttons, and a few minutes later the food comes out cooked... it's impossible! Yet today, microwave ovens are common. They're such a normal part of our lives we don't even think about it.

Maybe there are advanced cultures with tech we don't understand keeping tabs on us. It's not something I lose sleep over, because even if it is happening, what can I do about it? I believe in healthy skepticism. Seeing is believing, but I also believe in a healthy dose of humility. We as a species can't possibly know and comprehend everything about the world around us. Wouldn't it suck if we did? There would be nothing left to discover.

Something very odd for you to think about. Roughly 9 months after the Roswell NM incedent took place Al Gore was born. Huummmmmmmmmm! Makes you think!

UFO'S

I'm with Stormy, it's hard for me to believe in ufo's until i see one, and it would have to be proof positive, not some weird light in the sky, or pictures that are so blurred you can't make anything out......

Beam me up Scotty...

LMAO! Ambrosious, the more I read you, the more I like you!

Me, I'm a Trekkie from 'way back. It's kinda hard not to believe, or at least want to believe.

As for government conspiracy--nah-uh, not OUR government!

Psst - does the Kennedy assassination mean anything to anyone??? Ya think?

I am on the east coast and that is too early for me on a Saturday morning. Let me know if you set up afternoon or evening exams.

Hi neighbors!

Well I'm pretty sure that life exists on other planets. The universe is just way to huge to not have other planets that sustain life. But when you start talking about UFO's you are going beyond our understanding. We have the technology currently to send out spacestations that could sustain life indefinatly currently. So it's possible that life could be roaming around the galaxy. We currently don't have a way to excede the speed of light so getting anywhere would take forever. Basically for any aliens to get to us without us knowning about it they must be way more advanced technologically then we are. That of course is possible but we can't know for sure till we discover it for ourselves. Time travel could be a great way to travel large distances instantly. If you could seperate yourself from the universes normal rotation and expansion you might travel incredible distances instantly. Really dosn't matter tho. I don't think any government has proof of alien life. Anyone who is smart enough to get here has enough technology to easily avoid us if they want and if they don't then they would be very apparant. The whole concept of a race of beings advanced enough to get to our planet then stupid enough to crash on it is a bit silly to me. I think it might be extremly rare for intelligent species to evolve and not wipe itself out eventually. If our race is any example we will probably never get outside our solar system with anything other then probes. I'm not religious so I generally belive we evolved from monkies. I don't take it as a fact but it seems like a good enough explanation for now. If we did maybe a race from a gentler animal would be better off. The problem is that pretty much any race that will eventually become technologically equal or superior to us needs to be able to handle tools. Maybe if psionic abilities are possible and telekenises(sp) works that would allow more variety in the forms of aliens. Tentacles would work to tho so shrug guess you could have alien squid show up some day and wipe us out for eating calamari.

Yup...shor nuff!

They have been here...

They saw Springer...

Declared the planet void of any intelligent lifeforms...

Put a sign up on Pluto saying "Coming soon on the Third Planet on the left: Milky Way Intergalactic Trailer Resort! groundbreaking soon to begin.
(Right after exterminators rid the site of pesky parasites)

There must be life out there... the question is, is it sentient? Consider our planet - millions of species have evolved here. Many have been made extinct, by global catastrophes. We've been through a fair number of mass extinctions, besides the dinosaurs.

And we're the only ones with 'sentience'.

I like to think there is intelligent life out there, however.

But.....

Does sentient mean anything really...

Man isn't going to wait for a global catatrophe to start the next extinction...

We will initiate it ourselves...continued use of fossil fuels will not "harm" the environment...it WILL alter it and make it more inhospitable for us...

I would tell you the truth on the matter but everytime I do someone comes around and pissed down my throat.

I'll just say this when it happens, I told ya so.

How do I know Your not an alien?

You know any of us could be aliens on this board. With the internet now adays aliens could be interacting with us all the time and we wouldn't know it. What a great way to get to know all about humans. If there are any aliens out there stop by. I'm not squeemish. Once you get to a certain lvl of technology would there really be much of a difference between races? I mean the physical body will continue to become less and less important as we create things that substitute our own physical abilities. Eventually I think it wouldn't matter what your physical form is since you will just need a brain to do just about anything. And not even a very good brain at that.

Nod Thumper I think we are destined to wipe ourselves out. I don't think we will do so by using fossil fuels till our enviroment changes. We could survive that even if we had to live underground etc. Even if we had another ice age I don't think we would be totally wiped out as a species by this point. I think that eventually we will either blow the world up or release a biological agent that wipes our race out. something like that. Maybe we will create a better weapon that will do the job. If we are lucky some aliens will come by and knock some sense into us. Maybe they are already here and thats why we are still around. If so and your reading this THANKS ALIENS!!!

Hello Humans!

I am an alien. We have been watching your race evolve since you discovered fire. Your governments do not know about us. We have something along the lines of a TV channel on our plannet showing the most interesting events on your planet. My job is to keep your race from destroying itself so all the fans of "earth" won't be dissapointed. You humans are really humorous. We have many other planets that we supervise and many other races we communicate with but this planet is fairly unique. No other race that we have encountered is egotistical enough to actually think they are the only intelligent life in the universe. Actually most planets have more then one from of advanced life on it. Even so no other race we have encountered not only thinks it's the only intelligent creation but also thinks that most of the rest of it's own species are idiots. Sometimes we think you are more right then wrong.

We will continue to watch over your race and if you ever become mature enough to handle actual contact we will let our presense be known to your entire planet.

And no....I don't have tentacles thank you very much.

HMMMM

Aliens GOT Typos!!!!!!!

plannet showing the most interesting Actually most planets have more then one from of advanced life

OK...maybe ya got a tentacle or two crossed...

*whispers*
You guys get me offa this trash heap and I'll proofread for you.

Can I take the ladies with me?

Isn't this on the same lines as that wonderful argument that there are no intelligent civilisations out there because they haven't been here? Or to rephrase that, there are no intelligent aliens because none have travelled hundreds of light years to another inhabited planet. I'm pretty sure we haven't done that either.

And you can't criticise the alien's typing, it is not its first language.

Typos

I've heard that aliens often put secret messages in posts. The typos may be part of the secret message to other aliens on this board! Could this be the start of an invasion? I think the aliens are trying to get the secret of New York pizza from us. I think it's far more likely that there isn't anything as yummy as New York pizza in the galaxy then no other intelligent life.

Ps. Yes I have a pizza obsession:)

What did happen to Art Bell? I liked him better too.

He left because of all the bad media he was getting because his son had AIDS (I think, if I remember right)... also, people started threatening him and his family... he said he would come back someday...

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry!!! Anyone who knows more, please feel free to correct me!

I have to ask all you "see it to believe it" ones out there...

How come you believe so strongly in God then?

No one has ever seen him (or should I say that it's never been proven that anybody's seen him??), and yet so many people follow him... even to their deaths.

How come you will believe that an unseen God exists based on the preachings of men that supposedly "saw" God, that lived 2000 years ago? People nowadays are preaching about how they've "seen" aliens, but nobody listens to them?
