U.S. Tightens Focus on China After Afghanistan Withdrawal

As the Taliban overran Afghanistan last week, 25,000 Marines and other U.S. Navy personnel held exercises in part to simulate the capture and control of islands in the Western Pacific.

Undoubtly, the poorly orchestrated US withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster,
but what prompted such a precipitous/premature withdrawal? There must be more to it than "cuz Biden is an incompetent diot".

Is it because the US needs to concentrate it's forces elsewhere? Because of China's or Iran's growing military capabilities and them flexing their muscles? The Israel-Arab crisis? Intel foreseeing Civil war in the US? Corona? Or something else?

He campaigned on withdrawing troops and then he did that.

So outcome of the elections = correct inasmuch as that.

But Trump also campaigned on that.

So, no matter who won, we were leaving.
