U.S. looks at supporting anti-Russian insurgency in Ukraine

Russia is clearly in violation. US and UK are duty bound to protect the Ukraine. It was part of the deal of getting them to give up their nukes.
About that, how do you suggest we do that? Maybe hide underneath our nuclear umbrella? Putin is nuts, I believe that he believes he can survive a nuclear exchange. He's the stereotypical psychopath, he needs to be taken down from within his own circle with some outside influence like crushing his banking system, economy and eliminating his oil revenue..

Yeah, sad truth is an oil embargo would likely hurt Europe more than it would Russia. And the effects in Europe would be immediate but Russia could weather the embargo for years. Putin is well prepared, Europe is addicted to Russian oil/gas. No economic sanction is going to end this in the short term, but may oust him in the long term.

Continuing to supply arms to Ukraine to keep up the fight long enough for the oligarchs and Russian people to convince Putin to back off is likely the best path forward without sparking a greater conflict. Seems clear the Russian soldiers expected to be welcome and were not expecting this level of resistance. But I doubt Putin backs off without some consolation prize. Likely insisting on recognizing the independence of DPR and LPR. Does Ukraine agree to that to buy peace now and hope sanctions cut Putin's grip on power long term? Then join NATO?

What's sad is if it wasn't for Putin's nuclear arsenal NATO could reduce his military units in Ukraine to ashes in a relative short order. Now don't confuse a land war with Russia, but he would lose what he has in the Ukraine. IMHO Putin's navy? Not sure, NATO is superior but would take loses, Rusia does have a formidable ship to ship capability and some pretty good subs. Putin's problem is his units are heavily conscripted 1/3 while the other 2/3rds are contracted and haven't really been battle tested for a large conventional skirmish since afghanistan. They resemble Saddam's battle doctrine which was old Soviet tactics. They do have some very proficient western model units but still lack a solid NCO corp throughout. IMHO The west has overwhelming numerical advantage over the Russian air force. They do have stealth with SU-57 but limited in numbers, I believe 81 total but doesn't compare to the F-22 or the F-35 which both have unmatched situal awareness as well as integrated command and control. IMHO Russians aren't ten feet tall except for nuclear capability.

so the putin cheerleaders here on the forum and in the USA in general, they good with the fact that russian rockets are being fired into civilian populations?

Everyone on lit would luv to give the fucker a good dose of lead poisoning. He'll get his, sooner or later he'll get his. For now we have to dance around a nuclear exchange.

Don’t include me in your violent fantasy. Putin should pay a heavy price for his war crimes, but doesn’t deserve an early death.

This is what Putin is doing. These pics are graphic but should be seen. Time to expel all Russians and Belarusians from this country. Send them home to their baby killer leader
maybe they are over here because they do not want or like putin as their president, maybe even fear for their lives if they should return, i.e openly gay, or supportive of a putin political opponent, or a journo who has printed some anti-putin stories...

Too bad. If they haven't filed for citizenship...they need to go home immediately. Let me give you an example...Alex Ovechkin...great hockey player. His words are not enough. I get it...he has his wife and kids there...he has to watch what he says. But send his ass home on the next plane. Only problem...no planes are flying there...so give him a parachute

There is only one way for change to happen in Russia. That is from the inside. How can we facilitate that? By making every Russian and Belarusian life miserable. Hungry people create change. You don't focus just on the elite. You focus on every last one of them. Then...one of their leaders will eliminate Putin. That is how you change this. Ukraine is just a symptom.

Circumstances in which sanctions can cause regime change are rare. It worked in South Africa, but not in Iraq, and Cuba still has the regime established in 1959.

That is because they were cosmetic sanctions.

The regime is not going to fall because the people can't get rouge or lipstick.
Russia's regime is being hit with much more effective sanctions than any that have been used on any country before. The rouble has fallen 25% (went down by 30% but recovered a bit as Russia's central bank intervened). Their stock market is in free fall. BP and Shell have sold their holdings in Russian Oil companies and withdrawn all cooperation.

The rouble is going to tank.

Well, they're Russians. They remember how to run a barter economy.
