I copied this from the XXX Stories forum of a site called pornBB.org - This link is to the thread http://www.pornbb.org/viewtopic.php?t=27121

Nothing particularly surprising. Just thought I'd pass it along FWIW because it's a reader's poll and over 900 of 'em voted.

Two most popular categories romance and incest - whilst unsurprised I find the combination rather amusing set out like that.

Strangely, good incest stories are primarily romance. Sounds bizarre, but it's psychologically true.

Incest definitely turns me off but I guess that means to concentrate on Romance if you want readership? I wonder how much you can fudge the Romance category . . .

As usual, my favorite category - catfighting with makeup sex - wasn't even listed. What a bunch of prudes. I didn't see sorority initiations either. Lame!

Sorority . . . initiations. Hmmmm . . . Possibilities, that man, many possibilities.

God, if y'all only knew how boring sorority initiations really are...

are you back on the weed again?

obviously several times – my gawd, is this coming from the greatest vote rigger :p in LITEROTICA history?

Anyway, ignoring the stomach for a minute, to make these figures comparable to LITEROTICA categories the combined ones listed (bdsm + mc; sci-fi + celeb; romance + 1st + ec; etc.) would have to be broken up – perhaps as below.

Of course LOVING WIVES and the GAY Lit categories aren’t listed in the poll.

However the poll simply confirms what we all know (whether it pleases us or not) – for some reason INCEST stories are the most popular ones on porn/erotic story sites by a huge margin.

Anal 6% [ 59 ]

Bdsm 3%
Mind Control 3%
[ 62 ]

Sci fi 2.5%
Celebrities 2.5%

Erotic Couplings 5%

Interracial 3% [ 32 ]

Hence why you write exclusively in that category. If you even attempted to write a non incest story, it'd tank....badly.

And Selena? Well yeah, she's on the TOP of the favorites list because she CAN write in more than one category, and no matter which category it is, she writes well.

I'd like to see the HONEST feedback you'd get if you wrote a story not involving sex with ANY family member.....sex with PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RELATED IN ANY WAY to one another.

You couldn't do it because as any decent writer knows, much of what you write comes from personal experience. Would that explain why you are the way you are? Is your sister really your mother, scouries?

I may be different, but I don't write for the readers.

I get something in my head that I LIKE, and I write it. Once it's written, I share what I HAVE written. If others like it, they like it. And if not, oh well.

That's just me though............

You've summed up my philosophy in re: writing, Wildcard.

I've scored well in virtually all cats I've written in...except Romance...grrrr.

I wonder what a similar poll of Lit's readership would reveal?

It would have been interesting to know the gender break-out on that poll. I have a hunch Incest has more appeal for male readers than female.

Most erotic e-publishers won't touch incest, lumping it in with other no-no categories such as beastiality and snuff. If there's any validity to this poll, the wisdom of that policy would seem to be, at best, debatable.

That's probably because they are turned off by the thought of Daddy sneaking into his eight year daughter's bed in the middle of the night. The incest stories on Lit. are just E/C involving relatives. That's not a complaint, BTW.

Last night I read Richard Matheson's HELL HOUSE. Some people dismiss it as a blend of cheap thrills & cheesy porn, but I find parts of it very effective at expressing horror & erotica together. Hell House being a den of iniquity, where guests check in but dont check out.

Most erotic epubs are run by women (the entire industry is dominated by both women and romance) AND they have a CYA policy in place. As with underage, bestiality, snuff, etc, they don't want to get taken to court. Incest, I think, and nonconsent in general, are the two places an epub COULD push the boundaries. If they wanted to.

But the other issue is their readers. They will alienate many many romance readers (read: majority women) if they also publish incest stories.

But incest is growing out there in the epub world. I read romance blogs that cringe, and say, "I'm sure there's a market for it, but keep it out of MY backyard!" Hell, a lot of folks on Lit feel that way, too. *shrug*

Oh, and JBJ... you're going to have a hell of a time finding a good market (or even good readers ;) ) for erotic horror...

I pretty much just read realistic (meaning not horror, not sci-fi) snuff stories and didn't see that category (maybe they figure it's under BDSM? ).

SELENA

We must be speaking of two different things because erotic-horror is pretty popular, especially with women.

Snuff generally isn't accepted here.
