I have learned in real life that their are several ways to deal with trolls. As their are several different types and each one has it's own personality they must first be observed over a peirod time. This takes a lot of restraint
sometimes. Also some are out for a little harmless fun and i would not like to become a "brush shooter" by being to quick on the trigger.
I started to list the ways the differant types of trolls should be snuffed, But a person should never, never tell the enemy many what their going to do ahead of time.

Angel, kindly tell me what is "the" point here. I see several. Who's to say that any one of them is the right one? Deborah sets herself up as a troll hunter. Well, here's a challenge right in front of her. A minor one, but still a challenge. She's good at innuendo and guessing, but I have seen no proof. Circumstantial or otherwise.
Can she do it? I don't know.
Will she? Probably not.

There are several proven cases of plagiarism of works from this site.
It is also obvious certain people say things that aren't cheery and happy and pisses off a very large percentage of the board, an extremely high number of low votes suddenly befalls the poster's stories. Especially a VERY well reviewed and highly voted story. That's not paranoia, it's just obvious.

Sorry DevilMayCare - you obviously haven't seen enough here to know what's going on - though that doesn't take away your right to an opinion... HOWEVER you also owe it to yourself and others to gather enough background information to base your opinion on.
Plagiarism and Vote Fraud does exist. There are numerous cases that have been cited of someone posting something here on the BB followed by a rash of one's against there stories. This is fact, not opinion. It happens.

Angel - I see you're in "this is very serious" camp on the issue of trolls. The post above is on behalf of those more inclined to treat this matter with a bit more levity. And I don't doubt for a minute that many on this board harbor the opinion that some of the people speaking on this issue are overreacting. Paranoia is such a delicious term and when I found this definition on-line I couldn't resist copying it. (The devil made me do it.)

I've been here less than three months and I have no idea who the trolls really are. Most of the time they don't really bother me.
I'm content to sit back and let the folks who have been here for a year or more try and sort it all out. It would be presumptuous of me to tell Deb or anyone else that claims they have inside information that they are full of shit. Especially if I'd been here for only a few weeks.
Maybe she knows something you don't? Maybe that only comes from reading thousands of posts, and seeing very subtle patterns. Maybe she can't prove it with hard evidence. She thinks she knows who is who and it's her opinion, or maybe it's a lot more. I think she's in a much better position to have an informed opinion than you...wouldn't you agree?

Is it paranoia to try to figure out which trolls are which? To figure out if they're all the same? No. It's something Deborah obviously likes to do. I don't see her as obsessing over it, she's not here all day and night worrying over it. But this is her thing. *shrug*

I'm certainly not a defender of plagiarism, though I'm not so naive to believe pointing fingers on an anonymous board will make it go away. And the system that operates on this site for scoring stories is a perfect incubator for those with a vendetta against someone. Again, its the lightning rods on the board who are getting dinged in the votes.
Remember Pig Pen in Charlie Brown? Everywhere he went he stirred up dirt. If you want to write stories and stir up dirt on the board, you might expect someone will take a shot at you in whatever way will get your goat. I don't have to read a lot of threads to understand that. Nasty trolls and voting down stories have been very effective instruments for tweaking certain people at this site.
Perhaps if our nameless protagonist wishes fair and accurate reading and scoring of her stories, she should consider offering them under a different name? But, if my theory is correct, its the drama that is the goal here, not faithful treatment of stories or making the world safe from nasty folks who say bad things about nice people.
Of course, I don't get it cause I haven't been around long enough to understand. Perhaps you're right. On the other hand, its possible that someone with a fresh perspective on the situation will actually note that the king is naked. You be the judge.
I'll end simply by saying that I put the quote at the bottom of my posts because it seemed so perfect for not only this conversation, but for much of the angst on this board. I'm not going to change it, but I don't think I'm about to get too caught up in it either.

All I'm gonna say is that trolls don't really bug me, unless they post someone's personal info. And Deborah's tactics with trolls don't bother me. I think she's funny and smart as hell. If she wants to try and unmask a person that she feels has wronged her, then what business is it of mine or anyone else's. If you felt someone had screwed you over and you set out to try and make them stop, I certainly would not begrudge you that right, or try to tell you how to conduct yourself.
As for her changing her name to get better scores on her stories, I don't think that's what she is all about. First, I think she probably has too much pride to run and hide like that. And second, I think she is more concerned about stopping the person who is screwing with the scores than she is with her own stories.
Deborah is pretty sharp. I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt here. I just don't think she's the type to cry wolf with nothing to back it up.
But then again, I've only been here for three months...what the hell do I know?
