anyone?

allowed myself to wait...
it has been 25 years after all;
new ones to bring up to speed...

a leisurely binge through the original via netflix...
a brilliant season 1
a not so brilliant season 2... (which david lynch admits "sucked")

fire walk with me - a rambling sexualized frenzied feature film of laura palmers last hours...

then...

fire walk with me: the missing pieces - david lynch's (2014) precursor to the return - deleted scenes, ideas, characters shot for the original fwwm but omitted for reasons that i will argue make great sense...

and now the return on showtime...

i am transfixed, entranced and amazed by the new series...

truly it is without comparison to any current show of this general genre...
although almost each of them pays pale homage to the original...

stranger things is an entirely and unabashedly derivative venture.
it is greatly entertaining and strange with a where's waldo gimmick attached...
at times, it felt forced...
and in several episodes, absolutely nothing happens except plenty of production money is spent beautifully...
by the end of the 1st season,
a lot of pretty, but twisted nostalgia hangs from a rather scrawny upside-down christmas tree...
yeah... it is weird and compelling, but...

american gods is neil gaimon and overproduced and opulent
...and verily begs the viewer to look at the screen and ooze "ahhhhhhhh"...
the characters (and their worlds) are creepy and genuinely interesting.
gillian anderson is allowed to be truly brilliant as the god of media...
and ian mcshane as.... mr wednesday... is... mesmerizing...
but.
it too is a weird venture that calls so much attention to itself that
"gee how weird!" seems to be as much the intent as any story...

both contemporary shows may be craft ipas,
but they are not at all fine bordeaux...

there are others, of course... but enough digression...

who watches the return ?

thoughts?

never seen it but heard much about it. reckon i should watch it. and american gods. i probably need to clone myself first to find time.

a beauty of our times
is that good shows...
especially the deeply intense ones.
have shelf life...binge life...
can be delved into...sampled...
either acquired or tossed aside...
saved, discarded or savoured
at one's own pace...

there is no 'water cooler the next day' need to be "in"...

the better shows hold their value for your time.

the best of them never take your time investment for granted...

david lynch's gordon cole travels with and savours fine bordeaux as the return's season settles in...
david lynch - the new series director, serves up an entire case of fine bordeaux for your curious mind...

just saying... imho... breathtaking entertainment.

I'm quite a fan of David Lynch and Twin Peaks is no exception, at least the original. I didn't see any of the 2014 stuff yet. I have slowly been re-watching the original Twin Peak series in anticipation of the "new" series.

American Gods is very different - I still haven't quite decided if I liked it, despite finishing it a couplpe weeks ago. There are only eight episodes so it's not a huge time commitment at this point. As always, the book was better. ;)

I've watched a few of the first season of Twin Peaks in anticipation. I'll give it a shot when I find time to finish rewatching the orginal. I'm glad to don't think it's horrid.

i do recommend watching the original
then the film
and the deleted scenes
first...

yes, that takes some time and commitment,
but it does all fit the whole...opus
and will make the return (which can wait for you)
all the more enjoyable

When Twin Peaks is mentioned, I always think about a certain pair of titties, first. Sue me.

we know major tom's a junkie...

...hell, god... baby, damn no!

there is not a moment wasted
there is not a once wasted moment later un-atoned
there are heads and tails and silences that hang like elevators
the Owls were never what they seemed

black/ gold... tea

and of course, thor...
lynch always intended tits ...
I mean, really?
twin peaks

I might go back to Oregon this year. Now I'm watching Twin Peaks. Some of it looks like what I saw last year. Some of the show is also in South Dakota, which would be a longer route to drive, with lower altitude through the mountains. The return has more drug addicts.
