got tv today :D i hope its ok im starting another thread about it :)

i need some help though

which is better to have dvd player in ntsc or pal ... i guess for watching normal cable i have to have pal but what about dvds

is RGB good ... do i need new RGB interconnects or can it do that through normal scart lead

the tv has about 8 different zooms and widescreen modes but the dvd player only has 3 ... 4.3 4.3 pan scan and 16.9

i seem to find it hard to get the right settings for the film to completely fill the screen or its to big and the film go's over the screen

anyway any advice on those points would be more then welcome thank you :D

If the TV is PAL, the DVD player should be set to PAL.

RGB can give you a slightly better picture. If you are seeing "noise" or blurring between areas of color while watching a DVD, using RGB connects may get rid of that.

The DVD player screen size features should be set for use with a standard TV. Your TV zoom features should not be necessary to get a full-screen complete picture from the DVD player.

There may be adjustments possible with the DVD player to make it function better with your TV. Check your manuals or ask your dealer.

thanks phrodeau im really interested about the RGB interconnects do i need to buy new ones then a normal scart won't do it ?

im going to have a mess around with it tonight :)

s-g, try the scart connect and check the image. If you think it could be better, then get the RGB connects.

Hanns, her coffee is probably Arabian.

phrodeau the dvd looks really good but the normal cable tv looks slightly grainy maybe its just the bigger screen its still fine but i just wondered if i was doing something wrong

i got the dvd screen size working ok now :) thanks for your help

Check that your DVD player will also play American DVDs. They are recorded differently to European ones. (This is a seperate issue to NTSC and PAL)I think it's to avoid copying and copyright infringement. I've found if you put a US DVD in a British computer, you get an error message about resource not being found in this region

All DVDs are coded with a region. Region 1 discs are for North America. Region 2 are for Europe. They are not compatible with each other. You can go the region free player, but they are not compatible with some of the region 1 coded discs. If you have no plans to move out of Europe, then stick with a local player. If, however, you do want to play discs of both regions, get two players. Trust me on this.

i already have multi region dvd ... i dont know if thats good or bad thing but lisa can bring some of her dvds from canada which is why we got it :)

thank you both of you ... i got confused with the pal ntsc thing because my dvd lets me switch between them and it played the dvd whichever i switched too ... but i noticed the picture was a bit messed up on the ntsc thing i guess because it was a pal dvd
