Has anyone heard about this? TurboTax 2002 reportedly has a spyware program on it called C-Dilla. It installs itself without telling you, and does not uninstall when TurboTax is uninstalled. C-Dilla is a product from Macrovision. According to them, C-Dilla:

Protects against unauthorized consumer copying of PC software sold through retail, distributor and reseller channels.
Thwarts use of CD-recordable drives, re-mastering by professional pirates, and unauthorized Internet downloads.
Boosts revenues, discourages copying and opens new markets.
Increases retailer purchases of copy-protected titles and reduces store returns.
Creates additional selling opportunities and effective customer support via enforced user-registration information.
Incorporates anti-hacking technology that is effective against piracy.
Easy to implement, compatible with standard hardware configurations and transparent to the consumer.

The customer reviews of TurboTax at Amazon are just scathing.

Anyone know any more about this?

I've never heard of this, but it's good to know.

Thanks.

Look for a program called Ad-Aware. You can download it free from Lava. It finds spyware and deletes it from your computer.
You would be amazed at the amount of spyware out there. Kazaa users beware..once you use Ad aware you need to reinstall Kazaa, but it is worth it to clean up your drive.

That's why I use WinMX.

Good thread, shitty product.

Just for clarification, its Turbotax 2002, not 2003 with the problem.

Spy Ware

I have seen many of these software programs, and it just irks me no end. Here we have large and small corporations spying on their customers without their knowledge, and these are usually the same companys that complain about piracy.

I guess these two go together, but it is a bit of tit for tat.

Personally I use linux, and say fuck the establishment, they will all most assuredly burn in hell for it. And for all those "Windows" sheep out there, you can go down with the ship for all I care.

Damn, now how do you work those tax forms?
