Watch out KIWIs!!!!!!!

It struck early Thursday near the South Pacific nation of Tonga. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued the tsunami warning but said it was not known whether the quake generated a potentially deadly giant wave.

A magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck early Thursday near the South Pacific nation of Tonga, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning was issued for Fiji and other neighboring Pacific island nations. The quake, classified by the USGS as a "great'' quake, struck 150 kilometers (95 miles) south of Neiafu, Tonga, and 2,150 kilometers (1,340 miles) north-northeast of Auckland, New Zealand.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, part of the U.S. National Weather Service, issued the tsunami warning but said it was not known whether the quake generated a potentially deadly giant wave. It rated the quake as magnitude 8.1.

"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines in the region near the epicenter within minutes to hours,'' the warning said. It warned the tsunami could strike Fiji as early as 1713 GMT, New Zealand as early as 1821 GMT.

The Tsunami warning just got cancelled...

Whew!

I don't think anyone cared, my thread sank like a rock too.

Next time, I'll let the fuckers drown.

Unless Lucy Lawless is endangered.

Nawtee get the hell out of the way!!!!!

Don't worry, we are all still here. The place has not been inundated.

Just a slightly higher tide at 6 this morning in Gisborne.

I see where NZ has been nominated, by a US think tank organisation, the safest place in the world in the event of a major war or disease breaking out.

We know that here.

;)

Wow all the excitement seems to happen when I'm asleep. But then I can sleep through anything. I knew nothing about it until I logged onto MSN this morning and someone asked me if I was ok.

Weird. I had a full on nightmare last night about a tidal wave too.....

Never heard anything on the news all day, except for tonights news.... not a lot of concern happening - now I'm concerned about the lack of concern.....
