TSCLT 7.0: Hemis, Harleys, Hooters-n-Harridans

Here's a good question for this morning. Something to offer for thought, but not for trolls
(that's why 'here')...

In High School you had to purchase your books and at the end of the year you could sell them back I don't think there was much of a differential if any between the price you paid to purchase it and the price you got when you sold it back.

A significant portion were spoiled and entitled and didn't really care too much about recouping their parents money.

As above the text word strewn about hallways and some were ripped or damaged. I was able to recover a lot of them in very good condition.

Your student ID was stamped in red ink on the edges of each book. When you sold it back they just took a permanent marker through that student ID number and put the new owners student ID number on the new book.

I went to an office supply store and had a custom-made stamp with my student ID number had bought a red ink pad, and stamped all of "my" new books with my student ID number.

I then sold all of my new books back. I netted quite a tidy sum. I had only noticed my senior year so I wish I had known about this tradition of being wasteful the previous three years

Home from errands-n-fun.

Picked up the mentoree girl and spent some time with her. Got a different take on a situation. Saw a few people. Took her to rent a car so's she can go to see her g/f up the road. Went to the Harley dealer and kicked a few tires. Bantered with the salesman. Ate a burger. Browsed through clothes and scored a couple of sale items.

The saleslady in the clothing section was an iteresting specimen of humanity. Very un-AOC-like. Pretty, great smile, that retails sales in-your-grill personality, too much make-up especially at the eyes, trying to pass for 15 years younger . . . and covered cleavage. She did know product. She also did her best to up-sell - pleasantly. I was kind and didn't waste her time. I prefer to shop along. Yeah, with nobody else . . . .

Happ Saturday, B-T, and best wishes on sleep-n-supper. I'm not sure what taste treats lie in store for tonight. Time will tell.

Was going to try to finish up a little wiring job for a friend but got stymied. 20A ckt. and he bought all 15A parts.

He said, "No big deal isn't it?"

And I said, "Big enough that I won't finish wiring it." Do it right or not at all.

Did you learn that one from the wife?

The room I was wiring was the very last, the bath. Originally the bath was going to have an "on demand" hot water system and the HVAC closet. So I wired all 20A. The owner decided to go with gas for the HW and the HVAC ended up in attic so the bath ended up 'overpowered.' Oh well.

Which is the kind of shit that happens more often than I can count.

And doing what I do, one unnecessary thing like that isn't silly, it's costly-st000pid, because it's not one house but 140 apartments.

I think I have mentioned (more than once) the guy I used to work with/for who would fuck that up constantly. It cost him his job when he got to his first 105 apartments.

Then there is the "value engineering" fiasco, but that's another tale.

Anyone here read a translation of Solzhenitsyn's 200 Years Together?
If so, which did you read?

No, all I've read of his is the Gulag.

I started reading it, but my mind keeps drifting to 200 Years Together. Why won't anyone translate it? And this quote keeps running through my head:

"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize." ~Voltaire

Voltaire?

Voltaire never said that.

Those are the words of White Power enthusiast Kevin Strom, from a 1993 essay denying the existence of the Holocaust.

This is now the fourth time I've pointed this out to you, AJ

So, is InsightRiot really AJ?

I doubt it. Old age and alcohol have robbed AJ of the ability to keep who said what under what userid straight. That's why he only changes userids now when they get banhammered for gross violations of forum rules.

Both AJ and Ismale have completely given up the charade they're not who everyone knows they are. I have to admit, it was kinda funny when AJ had both SpeareChucker and WoundedKnee active, and was denying he was AJ.

Home. Short visit out. No one wanted to go out to eat, and the social crowd is at the race, which Allah is permitting by causing the rains to hold off.

All I've read of Alex's is Gulag and A Day In The Life of Ivan Denisovich. Maybe I'm past due to score another of his book and to have at it. That said, the idea of plowing through yet another Russian tome doesn't exactly excite me right now.

Currently reading something about Allah in action, so to speak.

A bit of josh before bedtime . . . .
