It's about a 6 hr. job. I'll take two days though. Tear down on day one, reassembly on day two. The manifold itself is a piece of cake, it's all the crap around it that eats up the time. Oh well, I'm not dead in the water..............yet so no need to worry today.

Off to the range in a bit.

It's not quite as bad as it sounds Endrura. The greater part is plumbing and wiring. The EGR pipe is the only potential problem depending on how badly it's seized up. I'll probably have to change the o-rings on the injectors too. Actually, as long as I have the fuel rails off I WILL change the o-rings. They're too damn cheap not to as long as I have it apart. All in all as much of a pain in the ass as it is, it beats the hell out of having to change the engine out.

These drive trains typically last 300K miles or more so I have a long way to go on this vehicle.

Anyone want to bet on which Lib acolyte will be the first to blame Michael on man?

(Or is that Mann?)

The hobbit is high on my list.

lol

Ain't that the truth.

I'm fixin' to put on some split peas and ham, and yes, I'll be adding a touch of bacon grease because it's going to be slow-cooked in a crockpot. Peas sometimes stick. This is not a reference to peas inna pod...

This is why I take my vehicles to "the guy."

:D :D :D

Yeah, well the "guy" wants 2 grand to do the job. the local guy wants $1400. If in the worst case I have to buy a new manifold it will set me back $220 along with 6 hr's labor. So even if I do have to spring for a new manifold I'll still have $1200 to spend on ammo, or other fun stuff. The biggest damn bolt is the EGR coupling (16mm), all the rest are 7, 10, and 12mm.

Home. Allah damn it, did it rain. Came down in buckets this afternoon. I had to set a spell before leaving the building - there was a lake outside for a few minutes. And we did get a NWS emergency alert on the phone.

Fortunately, my feet didn't get wet until sometime after lunch, so that was pretty good.

So I stopped and got some pizza on the way home. They have a buffet there, with salad bar, for $.6.99 plus tax-n-tip. That looks like a supper deal a night or two pr week, and it's two whole blocks from the house.

I shared with the landlady, so she was happy.

Happy Thursday!!!

Looks like we get more rain. I can hardly wait. The mudhole will be in full swing this morning, complete with a few pools of slow-draining water. Perhaps a spare pair of socks will be in order today.

My circuit breaker tripped this morning. Good thing the landlady was up early - more like, not sleeping. She's in the dining room processing tobacco. That'll keep her in roll-yer-owns for weeks, I imagine.

But the coffee kicks ass this morning.

Morning Wat.

Well, I brought the furnace on-line yesterday and just in time it seems. Possibility of snow Sun. night. Which means I'm going to have to get the cooler winterized before the temps fall. Never a dull moment.

Other than installing the ckt. breakers that little electrical job is done. I'll shut off the main and install them this afternoon. 15 min. maybe.

Going to go visit my gunsmith this AM. Want him to hone the chamber on my shotgun. It doesn't like to eject the new steel base shot shells. Turns out to be a fairly common issue with newer shotguns. My older gun, a 20 bore, has no problem at all.

Figures.

One day, I'll take my 308 Norma magnum in to be reamed out to a 300 Win Mag. The Norma may shoot just a tad better, but who the fuck wants to pay for that outrageously high ammo-n-parts? And something has gone south on the scope. May require a replacement.

This week is just seeming all kinds of long. Maybe that's because it is.

I'd tell you that the Win. Mag is more versatile when hand loading but that's not true. At least not with mine. It just doesn't like anything less than 160 gr. It'll shoot'em alright but the accuracy goes to hell. Regardless, the ammo costs are hugely different. Walmart is selling Federal 180 gr Win. Mag for $20'94 a box. I was buying them for the brass alone (clean brass sells for about a buck a shell) but it turns out that up to 300 yds the Federals will shoot side by side with my 208 gr. hand loads. After 300 yds the 208 grs start strutting their stuff. It's the difference in the BC.

Anyway I think it would be a good investment for you. What's the twist rate on your Norma?

I don't have that info.

It's a custom built in the early 1960s, most likely, on an '03 Smith Corona receiver. The guy sold the gun cheap because ammo was so high ($350 with scope). I bought it for the receiver alone.

I got it sighted in with some $3 ammo, and the scope wonked out. There's a competitive shooter rifle builder in town that I'll take it to to sort it out - when it matters for me to do it.

Meanwhile, I have weasels to see, so . . . .

Well, good news for you. It being an '03 action opens up a lot of possibilities.

The Nroma's were typically 1:10 twist which is what the Win. Mag. likes too so chamber reaming should be no problem. Alternately you can rebarrel it as well. Rebarreling is going to present some stock issues but you may want to think about changing the stock anyway.

No matter which way you go I strongly recommend that you have the muzzle recrowned and a muzzle brake installed. I swear by the Ruger Precision muzzle brake but there are many to choose from out there. I got damn near a 60% reduction in recoil after installation.

I've done well enough investing that I don't have to worry about the cost.

For example, in case of national (/local) emergency, I have three times that amount, or more, in my safe.

I'm more than happy to spend the money not to get dirty and to be able to spend more time to read, research and do other things.

Plan on being buried WITH the vault or IN the vault? :D

Nice observation. If I'm (ever) hauling it in, and I should, it would make it a decent and usable rifle. I cannot remember what the barrel profile is on it, but it's never been shot much. Maybe I should look into brake for the model 77 also - the 300WM I also got cheap.

Smart car guy. that looks like an F150 in the background. :D :D :D

That's in the neighbor's yard.

Hickey would dig that Mopar there. Even in Texas.

Work? Yeah, I survived. The weather? Seems to have missed me headed east, not like we didn't have another fawkin' flash flood warning again this morning. The cold? It's coming in now. It takes a lot more'n this little silly shit to kill off some Wat, but there is a tickling sensation . . . .
