Trying to find a story (sorry if this is the wrong forum)

So for the past week I’ve been searching for a story I read a few years ago. Then I realized there was a discussion board and thought I’d take a chance to see if anyone remembers this story and could point me to the name or author.

The premise was a guy in high school who befriends (I think he saves her from an attack) with a girl whose mom is a prostitute. She lives in a motel that used to cater towards prostitutes but the mom bought it and turned it into apartments. The boy and girl become friends, he helps fix up the “apartments” and the pair fall in love and decide to get married. She winds up being attacked and the guy kills her attackers but she mentally snaps later after going back to her apartment (where the attack took place) and winds up in a facility for years.

The guy winds up raising their son while she’s in the facility and I think the little boy winds up getting the mom to snap out of her psychosis/shut down and they live happily ever after


If anyone can remember the name or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I’ve tried countless tags but either wind up with hundreds of pages or a handful of incorrect stories
