Puerto Rico is Trump's Katrina

International Humanitarian Crisis in Puerto Rico

Response ?

Trump, his loyal White House, and the loyal men Trump appointed, are liars. Trump and his current collection of advisors, sent Sarah Huckabee Sanders to tell lies to the press and the nation.

Trump's catastrophic failure to respond to 3.5 million American passport holders in Puerto Rico.

The Navy hospital ship Comfort, tasked with providing disaster assistance to the Caribbean, remains unstaffed and docked in port at Norfolk, Virginia while San Jorge doctors and staff are desperately trying to save children’s lives in San Juan.

Puerto Rico Children's Hospital Is Running Out of Food, and the Trump Administration Is Nowhere in Sight

The most vulnerable patients have been moved to safety, but they may have to evacuate soon

What is Trump's main concern ?

"I think we're really getting really good marks for the work we’re doing,”

“We got A-pluses on Texas and Florida."

Trump does not consider Puerto Rico to be "real America." Trump blocked Miss Puerto Rico at pageant because she "could not represent America."

Empathy, Compassion, and Sympathy ? Absent.

Trump the Debt and Bankruptcy King, that never pays, assured Wall St. that Puerto Rico's debt would not be forgiven, despite utter destruction of the island.

New York Rep Nydia Velazquez has asked for a Jones Act waiver for Hurricaine Maria. September 25, 2017 Trump administration says it is not planning to waive federal restrictions on foreign ships' transportation of cargo to Puerto Rico.

That means other countries cannot deliver help.

(Federal restrictions were removed, as a concession, for Texas and Florida in the cases of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.)

A week passed, after the hurricaine destroyed everything. Almost all of Puerto Rico is dark, except for a small area of San Juan city.

Monday, our government waited for Trump to say something, do something.

Puerto Rico needed exceptional attention, due to the restrictions of ships.

FEMA spokesperson-

1,000 miles away from mainland America.

The Caribbean Sea borders all of Puerto Rico's southern and western borders. he North Atlantic Ocean borders the northern and eastern coasts.

A week has passed, and the people of Puerto Rica has not seen deliveries of relief supplies. No water, no food, no diesel fuel, has been delivered.

No communication with remote areas.

"We do not just drive trucks of supplies out to villages."

No place to land planes at airport. No safe place to berth ships in port.

They are feeding the police.

FEMA does not understand how dire and serious the situation is.

Maybe the Clinton Foundation will help? Look what they did for Haiti.:)

Nobody in Puerto Rico voted for Tromp so why should he give a shit?

Nobody in Puerto Rico voted for Tromp so why should he give a shit?

Nobody in South Korea, Syria, Yemen or Iran voted for him either, but he's damned well going to protect them whether they like it or not.

I think the leaders of South Korea, Syria, Yemen, and Iran would give you a stiff argument on that once they stopped laughing hysterically--and not out of amusement. Support by Trump has become the kiss of death.

Wishful Thinking!

Puerto Rican officials have complimented Trump, FEMA and the Federal Government for their handling and support.

You guys need to come up with some new material.

What do you expect them to do, if they don't pump Trumps ego they will get shit instead of shinola.

Snark, from White House operatives, that were expected to attend to the disaster.

Discussion on Greater Boston-

The restrictions were lifted for Hawaii, and the Virgin Islands. If Puerto Rico's situation is not worthy of an exception, I would like to know why.

September 27, 2017

White House has announced that it does not intend to request aid for Puerto Rico from Congress until the first or second week of October. This is in stark contrast to the $15.25bn quickly authorized by Congress to aid Texas following Hurricane Harvey.

Thousands of tons of aid sat undistributed for days

Three thousand shipping containers filled with food, water, and medicine were stuck in a port on Puerto Rico for days, CBS reported on Wednesday.

Fuel shortages and communication problems have dogged the island since Hurricane Maria hit, and authorities had been unable to arrange for the aid to be distributed to the half million people it could help, CBS reported.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosello told BuzzFeed News on Tuesday that one of the challenges of the disaster was that civil employees like bus drivers and police officers hadn't shown up to work as they dealt with blocked roads and destroyed homes.

The one's he appointed? How about that mayor?

He's a fucking pig. The man is a disgrace to the planet.
Trump doesn’t get it on Puerto Rico. He just proved it by lashing out at San Juan’s mayor.
President Trump is facing growing — but still measured — criticism of the federal response to the devastation in Puerto Rico. So what does he do? Lash out at the mayor of a hurricane-ravaged city, naturally.

Trump responded Saturday morning to harsh critiques from San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz by targeting her personally. The president accused the mayor of playing politics and succumbing to pressure from fellow Democrats to attack his administration. He also, remarkably, directly attacked her and other Puerto Rican officials' leadership.
<snip>
The fact that Trump decided to do what he did Saturday morning suggests he doesn't get that at all. This humanitarian crisis for Puerto Rico may not wind up being a political crisis for Trump, but Trump should be doing everything in his power to prevent that. Instead, he's making excuses and paying more attention to how unfairly he's being treated.
It's all about Him.

Houston, check.....Florida, check.....Puerto Rico? Trumps a racist!!!!

How well are federal relief efforts going in the first two? And efforts were anticipated there and started immediately. But Feds didn't prepare for Maria's hit on VIs and PR, didn't start mobilizing till the week after the hit, and (in the view of prior disaster managers) haven't aggressively applied what they have. Can't get trucks into the countryside? Guess they never heard of airdrops.

Let's see, Tromp spends first week of disaster tweeting barbs and threats at black athletes, refers to Puerto Rican natural-born United States citizens as 'them', refuses to denounce white nationalists. Yup, sounds racist to me.

More on Puerto Rico.

I know a lot of you have your hopes pinned on turning this into another Katrina, but it's not working, and people are seeing through the bullshit.

I especially like the 'custom printed t-shirt'. The island is in shambles, but the Mayor of San Juan can get a custom printed t-shirt? Good odds CNN gave it to her.

Also...it takes an unusual amount of stupidity to rail against Trump with pallets and pallets of supplies behind you.

The island is poorly run. It's been poorly run for decades. That's on display right now.

https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2017/09/30/san-juan-mayor-television-not-fema/

Oh JC, this cluster fuck is not limited to Puerto Rico. The whole fucking country has been poorly run since... Ronnie, or even Ike! G.H.W. Bush deployed more troops to invade Panama to punish his drug pusher than Trumpy sent to the PR.

I nominate you as head of FEMA....you have ALL the answers

by the way, how long does it take to tweet? a second? two seconds? This NFL argument is junk...do I wish Trump stayed out of the NFL thing, YES!

Its the liberal media finding ANY weakness to bring Trump down, it doesnt matter what it is, high heel shoes or Puerto Rico

Trump promised us that he had the best people and was hugely competent. Why should we settle for bumbling mediocrity?

LOL! That's Rich. You missed about 16 years there, and two Dem Presidents, but that's typical.

The only thing that matters now is debt. Our just passed 20 Trillion, and depending on how you measure it, our debt to GDP ratio is over 100%. Y'know the difference between us and Greece? About 10 years, and that's only because we're a reserve currency for the world.

The next stock market downturn is going to be ugly...for everyone...and it'll make things even worse.

Rail about every little thing that happens. Keep the outrage meter pegged. Trump is the Anti-Christ, and the epitome of evil.

Every President since Ike has fucked up in one way or another, with the assistance of Congress. Where did that debt come from? Tax cuts, over spending, excess Mil-Industrial complex welfare.

Trump is just incompetent, self centered and a 1%er. Look at his Tax plan, the middle class get $600 back, but the 1% gets $129,000 back and the debt goes up another $Trillion or more!

The questions you dodge: How well are relief efforts going in the Gulf states? And why were Puerto Rican relief efforts delayed whilst Tromp tweeted?
I nominate you as head of FEMA....you have ALL the answers
Why not nominate a professional? I'm not even ideologue enough to politicize the position. Gups seem to like incompetent ideologues running agencies.

Yeah, a thoughtless, impulsive, adrenaline-driven tweet takes no time at all. He can do those in-between his shots at a putting green. Rolling from hole to hole takes longer.

Its the liberal media finding ANY weakness to bring Trump down, it doesnt matter what it is, high heel shoes or Puerto Rico
You seem to misunderstand the role of major media in USA. They're in it for money. They spew products their demographically-researched audiences will consume, so as to deliver suckers to advertisers who enrich media. It's the eyeball market.

Faux and its InfoWars and Breitbart wannabees have trouble there because 1) their demographic is dying and 2) most Americans despise their products. Whereas outlets damned as FAKE NEWS by Trompskers (because their output is mostly true and dangerous to alt.right and Tromp) are making a shitload, being well-paid to grab eyeballs. It's like showman Tromp is shilling for "the enemy." Curious.

Trump used his appearances in Florida and Texas, for his own political purposes. He did not visit disaster areas. Trump repeated his rally/campaign performance, behind a barricade of heavy duty vehicles.

Trump used his Puerto Rico visit to continue his attack on the victims of Hurricane Maria, and protect his brand

13 days after Hurricane Maria destroyed Puerto Rico, Trump visited the Air National Guard base. The same amount of days G.W. Bush waited, to view the damage to Katrina. Bush avoided people, completely. Bush took a ride in a helicopter.

Sexist arsehole Trump used Malevolent Melania as a shield, to avoid talking to the female representative. Ricardo Rossello was placed next to Trump, because he has the same sneering attitude towards the victims of Hurricane Maria.

Trumps's air conditioned venue

Closed photo op, inside Calvary Chapel. Tossing paper towel rolls, at small crowd of reporters and hand picked people, and handing out a small bags of rice with his tiny hands.Small collection of canned chicken breast and batteries. Not generous pyramids of fictional pseudo Trump products. Trump told the disaster victims to "have a good time." Trump told Florida hurricane victims the same thing.

Fuck. Trump does not get it. He pretty much told them they were having a self pity party. They are part of America, and they are suffering from Third World diseases. Because of his preference for oblivious, their suffering will get worse.

Reality

Every death is a horror, but if you look at a real catastrophe like Katrina, and you look at the tremendous hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people that died, and you look at what happened here and what is your death count? Sixteen people, versus in the thousands,” Trump said. “You can be very proud. Sixteen versus literally thousands of people.”

That statement is problematic in several ways. The idea that Maria was not a “real catastrophe” defies all evidence, and any discussion of the death toll is premature. While the official number remains at 16, where it has been for several days without update, officials have acknowledged it will end up much higher. The Center for Investigative Journalism reported Monday that “dozens” of people are dead, with bodies piling up in morgues, even as the official count has not kept pace. Trump’s decision to use Hurricane Katrina as a benchmark also makes little sense and belittles the suffering in Puerto Rico. Katrina is both the deadliest hurricane in U.S. history since 1928 and a prime example of a mismanaged disaster. Trump also overstated the toll of Katrina, which was less than 2,000.

Praise Trump, or suffer the consequences

At numerous turns, Trump asked officials to come forward with positive things to say about his administration’s response.

“Jennifer, do you think you could say a little bit?” he said, specifically referring to the favorable aspects.

Trump then quickly followed up by insisting that the exercise had nothing to do with him. “It’s not about me,” he said.

Cruz was present at Trump’s hangar appearance on Tuesday. According to pool reports, she did not comply with Trump’s repeated insistence that the officials in the room applaud his talking points. When she told him, “It’s not about politics,” he turned away from her.

Trump was visiting Guaynabo, one of San Juan's wealthiest neighborhoods and one that has recovered fastest from the storm.

San Juan's mayor pleads for help, and is ignored, and slapped down for daring to stand up for the people.78 mayors in Puerto Rico, but are still working to place permanent FEMA liaisons in each of the island’s 12 emergency management zones.

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail"

"Donald Trump visited the island today and did what he does best: Make things worse."

Trump had mansions in Plum Bay, St. Martin/St. Maarten. What happened to his Chateau des Palmiers ?

https://massappeal.com/donald-trump-caribbean-mansion-got-destroyed-by-climate-change/

"Really nothing short of a miracle,” Trump said of the recovery, an assessment at odds with the despair of many still struggling to find water and food outside the capital city in wide swaths of an island where only 5 percent of electricity customers have power back.

Air Force One descended over a landscape marked by mangled palm trees, metal debris strewn near homes and patches of stripped trees, yet with less devastation evident than farther from San Juan.

Cruz said “I saw a real connection between the reality and the White House staff. I think they finally understood.” In a tweet, she pointedly excluded the president as she credited his people with now understanding “the disconnect between how things are supposed to happen and how they really happen.”

Trump was visiting an upscale neighborhood.

"At least parts of the itinerary were drawn to ensure a friendly reception: Trump visited the houses of selected families waiting on their lawns."

"Trump and his wife also visited Navy and Marine Corps personnel on the flight deck of the USS Kearsarge."
